We can count ourselves lucky that even as they were killing Gwen for no reason besides "it happened in the comics," they were at least smart enough not to follow the comics in how she reacted to her father's death by joining a white supremacist mayor candidate because he said he'd take down Spider-Man. And then the comics never even let her have any kind of redemptive moment after the guy was exposed, so many fans were Tethercat-ed into thinking she still was 100% on his side.

If the ending with the Rhino feels weirdly jarring after the somber funeral scene, that's because it was a late replacement for the original ending, in which Peter's father is revealed to still be alive, and with timing that Harry's butler would envy, he decides Gwen's funeral is the perfect time to reveal himself to Peter. The scene actually has some pretty great acting from both Andrew Garfield and Campbell Scott, so it's a shame that it's impossible to focus on that while you're struggling to understand how the hell this makes any sense, and it was absolutely the right decision to toss it.

Gwen was by far my favorite love interest out of all the Spider-Man movies. She's independent and carries her own weight. This movie made me cry. No Way Home made me weep.

I’d forgotten about that😂with her it was basically “hmm, I guess I don’t hate Spidey as much as I used to.” and then she gets killed off not long afterwards. However I still regard “The Night Gwen Stacy Died” as on of the most pivotal Spidey stories outside his origin. I’m not the biggest fan of the Garfield movies, but I like that they gave Gwen a bit more character in them.

I know you've already watched Spider-Verse but it is a great watch after the Maguire and Garfield films as like a sixth film to cap off the non-MCU Spider-Man films. Also there's some multi-versal justice in Spider-Gwen being awesome and, well, alive.
