Curt Connors actually appeared in the second and third Raimi films, played by the always awesome Dylan Baker, and it's especially neat in those movies how his missing arm is right there onscreen, but the camerawork doesn't bring any attention to it, so it's just there for you to notice if you're familiar with the character. And as you'd guess from that, Raimi very much wanted the Lizard to be the villain of the fourth film, but Sony refused to let him do it, which was a major part of why that movie got scrapped. And then they turned right around and let this movie use him, which many fans naturally took as an open "Fuck you" to Raimi.

Maybe they knew it would look like a shit show given the tech at the time? I did notice his character in the Raimi trilogy though and agree it was cool they didn’t shine too much light on him in that sense. And I can’t imagine HOTD was Jess’ first encounter with Rhys, he’s been in quite a lot over the years, not to mention in Harry Potter.

Awesome reaction to the objectively best Stan Lee cameo. Which also nicely explains why he doesn't believe superheroes exist in The Avengers.

Jess, Spidey has a lot of animal-based villains, but there is no snake-based villain, EXCEPT for the "Serpent Society" - they still have to appear in a movie someday, so no worries ^^

Serpent Society was briefly teased as the title of the third Captain America film, before it was revealed to actually be Civil War.
