As Mr. Nobody from Doom Patrol would say, the reveal that no one saw coming except everyone. They had the decency to not play Gideon’s first appearance like it was any kind of surprise, and it feels like there has to be some further twist to it. So right now my thinking is that the Armorer deliberately lured the others into the trap before making a convenient excuse to leave, to wipe out non-Watch Mandos. Which will finally push Din into turning against them for good.

I'm getting Error 520 when trying to connect to your site today. Help?

Nevermind. Tried to start all over and it worked the second time.

I’m with you, Jess. Regardless of how well-received the season has been, it has remained a great deal of fun sitting down and watching it week after week. Likewise, it is beyond lovely getting to share it with you. Now onto the episode. Well, this episode was a bit of an adrenaline rush. I’m going to start by gushing a little about the opening scene. It's fantastic to see Giancarlo as Moff Gideon again. And now we’re given a better idea of the Shadow Council leading the Imperial remnant that he’s part of. A delightful surprise to see Xander Berkeley as Captain Pellaeon. And Brian Gleeson as Brendol Hux was a nice touch. It's interesting seeing the dissent on which plans to go forward with. You have Gideon arguing in favor of his devious plans. You have Pallaeon arguing they should wait for, as they describe, the imminent return of Grand Admiral Thrawn. I know fans of the expanded universe of old, my brother and I included, would be most aggregable to the latter plan. Then there’s the third plan mentioned, the name of which, as you noted, sounds most ominous. One shudders to think what would become of the galaxy should the Empire follow through on this Project Necromancer. But seeing as for the time being, they’ve decided to put all their rotten eggs in Gideon’s basket, perhaps that is a concern for another time. I loved how you described Greef having the uncle moment of giving Grogu a dangerous toy and going off, over there with no kids, enjoying his gin and tonics. My response to that is, “Maybe. Who am I to judge?” It does lead to the great moment of Grogu getting the fighting Mandalorians to sit the fuck down. Yeah, I had a small laugh over everyone saying, “I will go” as well, I chimed in with “I will go, and so will my wife!” A striking moment when Bo-Katan reveals how she came to lose the Darksaber. I love how you have the issues with putting so much stock into the blade when it comes to leadership whilst still recognizing the importance it has in the culture. As a wise old woman once said, “A lightsaber, any weapon, only achieves worth in how it is wielded. In the effort, the struggle of the one who holds it. Such a weapon does not make a Jedi or a Sith. And at times, it makes them much, much less than they are.” Thus, I liked that you liked that Mando expressed that his loyalty is to Bo. That got you emotional. It got me some, saying, “Well, Sheeeeeeeeeeeit. That was very sweet.” That ending was nail-biting. I'm so torn in that it’s horrible seeing Mando get captured and seeing the group forced back. By the same token, my overwhelming love for great villains kicks in, and I am LIVING to see Gideon be impressive. Giancarlo brings the brilliance. The love is aided of course by the holdover love for our dear beloved Gustavo Fring. I wanted him to channel Gus, first when Bo says she should have killed him, I wanted him to reply, “You SHOULD have.” Second, and it could happen next week, I am deeply wicked in wanting Gideon to taunt Mando by saying, “Your little green friend? Yeah, I will keep him alive, keep him broken. I will save him to the last. Before he dies, he...will know...I...buried EVERY one of you.” Brings us to Paz Viszla, and I share you view on I was not expecting his death to hit as hard as it did. That got me bad. One such aspect in particular is how we remember, ten years ago (Not quite a year in your case, Jess) seeing when Bo saw Pre Viszla killed before her very eyes. To now see another member of the clan lay down his life so she can survive, I don’t even want to imagine the trauma that’s going through her mind upon seeing that. Yeah, like I said this episode was great. I too am very much looking forward to next week to share the finale with you, Jess. There's just one small problem. I got work, first thing in the morning on the day, but then again, there was a night or two where Obi-Wan was on a work night, and last week on my birthday was the same. I managed to get in two and a half hours of sleep, and with a little coffee, I was fine. Coffee is truly a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. All this to say, I should be good next week, though the nervousness persists. In any event, I look forward to sharing the finale with you, and I thank you again for a most marvelous reaction, Jess, it was wonderful.

That’s been intermittently happening to me as well over the past few days. I don’t quite know what causes it. I often get around it by refreshing, pulling up a different tab and trying there, or pulling up a different video to access the newer ones. Don't know if that will help you or not, but that’s what I’ve been doing to get around the issue.

Anonymous

I've been hearing similar rumblings about the Armorer. The idea does sound plausible. We'll see how it goes.

Jenny Chalek

Yeah, I refreshed and tried again and it worked. I have had intermittent troubles connecting for the last few days as well, but I had never seen this error before. I'm a software developer, so I am familiar with 500 and 520 errors, but usually those need to be fixed on the server side of things. I'm just glad it didn't persist.

Ryan

I love that Esposito has become the go-to actor for characters who can give a believable vibe of “Bitch, I own you” no matter how powerful the person he’s talking to is (see also The Boys).

Anonymous

Yeah, I still need to see The Boys beyond one or two scenes that my brother showed me, scenes which I found hilarious by the way. Giancarlo is a big draw for the show, for sure.

Thrawn is on his way!!! Loving Gus, erm I mean Moff Gideon's new armour, made of beskar as well. The man has got style, you gotta give him that! He also has an ego the size of J upiter, and I kind of respect that too; he's a fun villain! :D So plenty of stuff we hear of happening behind the scenes with the Empire. Captain Palleon is Thrawn's right-hand man from the old EU and elsewhere, so he is holding the fort in the meantime until the Grand Admiral is back. We see Hux too, who is the father of General Hux from the sequels, and gives Gideon some early First Order tech. Then there is mention of Project Necromancer aka 'somehow Palpatine returned'. ;) And then of course Gideon himself has been working away on developing new armour troopers who use beskar also. Some great shots of the Mandalorian fleet this episode. The effects shots on tv shows these days are almost movie level in quality; and of course Disney is the hegemony of the entertaiment market, so can do it better than anyone, even HBO. Grogu getting into the IG-12 mechsuit and button mashing 'yes' and 'no' constantly, had me tickled no end. And we see him nick a meiloorun! So its not just Ezra who does that! What a little tyke! :D The 'I will go' part reminded me of the 'I'm Spartacus!!!' scene from that film; and was quite moving seeing them finally come together for a bigger purpose, other than themselves individually. Bo-Katan later says it perfectly, and its always been my interpretation of Mandalorians, when she says that their people have always been strong throughout the galaxy and feared by others, but that its always been their own squabbling thats caused more damage to their civilisation, than almost anything, excluding the Empire. I like later in the episode when she mentions about her being 'selfish' before, and being part of the problem with her old Death Watch faction, bringing down her own sister's government, and starting them on the path to this near extinction; even if she was at the forefront for decades, of the fightback against the Empire. It looks like they all are learning that co-operation is better for the whole, than self-centred interests. Love the design of that sailing type ship that came in, and its obviously been repurposed materials from the survivors who couldn't get off-world when the purge happened. Very Mad Max in its design. Good to see Skinny Pete back as a Mandalorian too, ha! You can hear the sorrow and conflict in Katee Sackhoff's voicing of Bo, as she tells the rest about her surrendering her forces, to keep the remnants alive. This harks back to when she rescues Obi-Wan in Clone Wars and she states 'Mandalore will always survive'. Obviously surrendering is not a very Mandalorian thing to do, but it was a necessary one here, we can't blame her; and its something along the lines of what her sister would do too. Din swearing his allegiance to Bo's leadership was touching, and he's right. The Mandalorians existed thousands of years before Tarre Viszla came along and made that lightsabre. While anyone holding the blade carries great weight and influence, its still just a symbol, its the actions of the wielder that can help unify Mandalorians. Grogu stopping the fight was great, and shows some of his Jedi teachings are paying off. Now that Obi-Wan is gone, he can be the new 'Negotiator'. :D Those beskar stormtroopers looked the biz, it has to be said, and I like how they baited our Mando friends into the trap set by Gideon. So Din gets captured, and Paz goes out like an absolute boss, RIP big fella, we may not always have liked you, but you were a true believer. Can't wait for the finale!

Ryan

I really wish we could see them explain to Taika that yes, they really brought him in just to say yes and no a bunch of times.

Was Kreia wise or misguided, the way she ended up? ;) Would love them to bring her into canon someday though, even if there are hints of her in canon Star Wars. I'd be less up for Revan though, even if he was going to be canonised in Clone Wars in the Mortis arc. She is right there though, a true Jedi only uses their lightsabre as a last resort, they should seek to find solutions to issues without it. Its similar with the Darksabre here in which the vast majority of people who have wielded it down the centuries, were non force-users; and the influence it has, is less about how proficient you are with the blade, as how you lead whilst bearing it.

Anonymous

Was Kreia wise or misguided? Yes. I would love to see her in the new canon. She’s one of my favorites of Star Wars. The worry is the casting; getting the perfect pick to play her. Same with Darth Revan, though there’s the additional concerns of writing and directing, regardless of which avenue they take with the character.

Concerning Moff Gideon’s style, it is great. No point in being evil if you can’t be fabulous about it. Everything about the Shadow council scene had me feeling so giddy like a kid in a front row seat with a big tub of buttery popcorn. I'm still waiting for my brother to start watching the season. Work's kept him too busy for a while which is why he’s behind. I know he’ll love that scene of the Shadow council as well. I had a feeling you’d catch about the meiloorun. My mind went to Spartacus in the one scene as well, hence my Life of Brian reference. That scene in Spartacus makes me cry every time. The scenes of Bo-Katan were great. Yeah, you hear the sorrow as she recounts her story. It is a case of she’s left with an impossible choice, and she chose what she felt was the lesser of two evils. I liked how she acknowledged her faults without necessarily apologizing for them, and it’s showcasing her growth this season. Paz did certainly have a memorable demise. He went out a true Mandalorian. As to I see Ryan commented on Taika being told about coming back just to say “yes” and/or “no” ad infinitum, knowing Taika’s sense of humor, he probably took it in stride fairly well.

Anonymous

I could see Helen Mirren playing her. And yes, bringing in Revan would open a whole can of worms.

Anonymous

Ha funny talking about Taika Waititi on here. I was watching Jess's reaction to What We Do In The Shadows just last week, and based on what seems his humour, I think he probably would love to just come in and record two words just for fun! (and KK can have a word in his ear about his supposed Star Wars film while he is there!!) Yeah I was never going to miss the meiloorun, haha. I got Palleon too even if I haven't read any of the Thrawn novels; but what we seemed to miss was the feast, that the thing they cooked in the feast, was one of the giant bird babies they 'rescued' a few eps back! :D Been a while since I watched Life Of Brian, though I personally think The Holy Grail is the best Python film anyway.

Anonymous

Helen Mirren would be a very good pick. For a good while, I always had it stuck in my head that I'd love Angela Lansbury in the role, largely because of her performance in The Manchurian Candidate. If she could bring that same energy to Kreia, I thought it would be great. Sadly, she’s no longer with us, still, that was an idea I had for quite some time. But, yes, Helen would be excellent in the role. Darth Revan, I have my preference as to which route that I would like them to take. Even if they didn’t go that route, I'm fine with that so long as the character’s well cast and well written. Very difficult. Very tricky.

Anonymous

I am curious what Taika’s Star Wars film will be like. If it’s anywhere as good as Jojo Rabbit, it should be most impressive.

Anonymous

And I agree with you on Holy Grail being the best, or at least my favorite Python film.
