So basically the show's crew saw Andor and said "We can do that too." And for what they had to work with, they do a pretty good job of that. My one complaint is the dialogue from the snooty rich people. The writing on Andor always made them believable careless snobs, but here I kept expecting them to start outright saying "My, isn't it marvelous to be rich and better than other people? Now if you'll excuse me, I have to close an orphanage and burn down a puppy farm." I got enough of that from the latest season of You, thanks.

Same with the obvious color-code.... The evil woman likes the red cookies more AND has the red-glowing popsicle.... but yeah, those rich people were a bit over the top! :D

Hope you recognized Monument Plaza, where Dr. Pershing and the girl were at eating ice cream as where Satine was hiding on Coruscant and Obi-Wan saved her in The Clone Wars.

I too thought everything that was happening between Pershing and that woman was going to turn out badly. I'm glad we were both vindicated.

This episode was one that as soon as it ended, before I went to bed, I said, “Oh, I am looking forward to what Jess is going to say about this one! It's going to be great!” And as soon as I woke up, already I heard people complaining about how they got an episode of Andor rather than The Mandalorian. In addition to my initial thought being, “There’s just no pleasing some people.” I also think it’s somewhat humorous as it sounded like most everyone was fine last year when The Mandalorian episodes occurred during The Book of Boba Fett. I also confess that I sounded a trifle petty, saying, “I guess the foot's on the other hand now. Isn't it?” On the other hand, I've heard just as many fans saying that they most enjoyed the episode, so the sentiment is not universal. Start by talking about the Mando and Bo-Katan plot. It was adorable Grogu trying to wake his dad up. When you said, “Oh, look at Grogu. He's like “Papa!” I laughed, and said, “Yes, he did have that moment saying, “Papa can you hear me?” it was cute.” Interesting that Bo keeps the mythosaur to herself. I mean, she does have a pattern of avoidance behavior. Alternatively, seeing the creature has shaken her up, so maybe she’s still processing. Loved the action scene. I sounded nerdy when Mando commented on the TIE-interceptors being tougher than the normal fighters, I said, “I played Rogue Squadron on the N64. I could have told you that.” Mando and Bo being redeemed should be interesting. Difficult to say ultimately how Bo will handle it. Curious how she’s going to be with Paz Vizsla, Pre Vizsla’s... I don’t know. He might be his son. Maybe a nephew. Distant cousin, perhaps. Now onto the bulk of the episode. I loved seeing Coruscant in the years following Return of the Jedi. Doctor Pershing has been an intriguing character. Omid Abtahi has been consistently good in the role. I think to your point, it’s the hope, the desire to do good that blinds him some. It recalls two quotes. The first from Mary Shelley, “No man chooses evil because it is evil; he only mistakes it for happiness, the good he seeks.” The second being my favorite quote from my favorite character from the tv series Fargo, “The problem is not that there is evil in the world. The problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?” His entire situation and the set-up of the re-integration process, I took it in, and said, “Essentially, this is the Star Wars equivalent of Operation Paperclip. Got it.” A surprise to see Kane, who until she said her name, I just kept calling her the comms officer. I was momentarily taken aback when I first saw her, as my thought was, “Didn’t she... Didn’t she get killed at the end of last season? Or... Oh, never mind.” Katy O’Brian was great. You're not alone in suspecting her. I was cynical about her actions the whole episode. I do get your worry of if she wasn’t evil, and you then sound like an asshole. I loved your reactions through all of the scenes of Kane stringing Pershing along in her devious plan. And leave it to you to have fashion commentary in the middle of it all. I laughed at your reaction to the train scene. You said, “No we’re fucking not!” me, I'd channel Donald Pleasence in The Great Escape by saying, “I’d prefer it if you simply gave me a good push.” It does suck for Pershing when the rug gets pulled out from under him. I also had a laugh at that double-take from the Mon Calamari guy when Doctor Pershing said, “It was a trap!” that was priceless. I assume Kane is working for Moff Gideon still, and I don’t know but I got a pretty good idea what they’re after. Mind you, I just really want to see Giancarlo as Gideon again; fill the void that’s come from his final bow as Gustavo Fring, one of the best tv characters ever. A terrific episode and a terrific reaction. Now I'm nervous as I might be behind the next two weeks, if not the show itself, perhaps the reactions I'll be behind on. If it happens that way, then it happens that way. Not the end of the world, I know. Still, I'd like to not have to contend with potential anxiety of being behind on your reactions to The Mandalorian. Especially if in the next two weeks we get a Frog Lady episode; I'd love to see your reaction to that and see how delighted you would be. Until then, again, terrific reaction, Jess, thank you.

Thats a McQuarrie concept design too, great seeing it brought to live action.

Did you pick up on the theme from the opera scene in Revenge Of The Sith, where Palpatine is seducing Anakin, and a variation on it is played when Pershing makes the choice to go for the cloning tech? As that will be the eventual outcome of this and "somehow Palpatine returned". Gave me goosebumps, terrific job from Ludwig Goransson.

Yes, I did catch the small snippet of Palpatine’s Teachings featured in the score for this episode. A wickedly delightful touch. I also caught the variation of March of the Resistance being played at the fair or whatever that was when Kane and Pershing were at the mountain. They're doing a great job with the music in this show.

Oh yeah sometimes we can nitpick some bits, scenes or arcs in these shows, but the music no matter what show its from, is always top notch. And then when they want to hit the important stuff, they'll wheel out the John Williams classics. :D

Ryan

Knowing your feelings on Palpatine, once you brought up your favorite Fargo character, I immediately knew who it would be (though with a slight possibility of Billy Bob Thorton).

Billy Bob’s character is up there as well, but if you’re thinking of who I think you’re thinking of, you would be correct.
