Well, if I could put in my two cents, I'm fine with either option going forward. I admit the preference leans towards keeping the Star Trek movies on this tier, but I would not be opposed to them moving to the movie series polls. I will say that if you did keep them on this tier, I would concur that having them every other week would perhaps be the better course of action, given the length of the films. Whichever way you do it, Jess, I’m fine with that. Now onto the episode. I loved your fashion commentary. A weird episode is putting it mildly. Yes, rather middle of the road. There are certain aspects that I genuinely liked. It's the presentation of a lot of it that threw me off. I wish the Spock plotline got more focus than it did. As you say, it’s neat how Spock doesn’t write off the group. I also would have liked a touch more focus on Chekov and Irina. Yeah, it would have been more interesting had some of the group been more questioning. Dr. Sevrin was interesting. I’m told that a lot of fans have likened him to Timothy Leary. Looking at the character with this in mind, it does make sense, and I wonder if the comparison was in fact intentional. Personally, I also got shades of Charles Manson, but that’s probably because I'm watching this so long after the murders. I wonder if the show itself would have been more deliberate in that comparison had it been written and filmed after Manson sent his followers to murder Sharon Tate and the others that were in the house that night, as well as the other murders that the Manson family committed. I got distracted the whole time by Charles Napier as Adam, more so because it’s drastically against type for him. Charles was a highlight; had a good singing voice too, even if as you say, the musical numbers did drag just a hair. The slang made me laugh in that it makes me think of times at work when I've had co-workers that I'm significantly older than. And when they use slang, I question what they’re saying, they explain the definition, leading me to say, “Well, why don’t you just say that then?” Speaking of the slang and you questioning of them saying Herbert and it is sounding like pervert, I hadn’t thought that, but when you said it, I thought it did when they started chanting it. I loved how critical you were that the crew was distracted by vibing to the music, though yeah, great that Sulu was still doing his job whilst vibing. Also, yes, it is rich somewhat hypocritical beyond belief that Kirk of all people would have problems with Sulu being a touch flirty-flirt and/or simply being nice to the lady. All in all, a bizarre episode, which has led to a most enjoyable reaction. Thanks Jess.

Napier actually appeared in the franchise again 30 years later on Deep Space Nine, this time playing his usual serious military role. It's really bizarre to compare them.

In case you forgot this was made in the '60s, here's The Way to Eden! As you probably guessed, this episode is especially notorious these days given how hippies are now generally viewed as having been harmless weirdoes, so it's just bizarre seeing the show portray them as this delusional and self-destructive. One fun tidbit: despite George Takei only publicly coming out decades later, a lot of his friends and co-workers already knew he was gay even back then, so it's very likely the scene where the girl totally fails to seduce him and he just grins at her was a nod to that.
