That first protocol Droid you saw actually was C3PO, and he was portrayed by Anthony Daniels, so your reaction was 100% valid. You can see R2D2 for a brief second in the background as well. The group that you saw hunting the Jedi are called the Inquisitors, and you met one in Tales of the Jedi and Ahsoka made very short work of him. So glad that you have finally reached this point in the narrative. There are going to be many surprises along the way.
