I was pretty skeptical about this show when the premise was revealed. The whole appeal of The Addams Family is seeing them freak out "normal" people, so what's the appeal of one of them being with a bunch of equally weird people? But somehow, it actually pulled off a great story while keeping everyone perfectly in character, with the worst I can say is that it turns out Wednesday's constant snarking is a bit harder to take as a lead character, but even that gets better as the show goes along. And I'm especially digging this take on Thing, who actually looks like a hand cut off a corpse.

Honestly, I hope we get more reaction to Wednesday from you! :)

It’s still taking its time building the world, establishing the story, still, this show is proving to be very enjoyable. Yeah, I too am keeping a suspicious eye on most if not all of the characters. I find I'm particularly questioning of Gwendoline Christie’s character following the shape-shifting reveal as it could be she’s trying to protect the school. It's equally possible that she’s perhaps hiding something else. There's also the thought that Gwendoline is playing against type in the sense that on the one hand, her most famous role is the stoic and steadfast Ser Brienne of Tarth. Thus, her being a villain would be shocking to see. On the other hand, she was also the venal and villainous Captain Phasma in Star Wars, who incidentally, has gotten the fan nickname of Brienne of Darth, which makes me laugh. I'm told Gwendoline herself has heard it and is quite tickled pink about it as well. So, it’s possible the show wants me to suspect her, and she’ll be a red herring. It wouldn’t be the first time with Tim Burton’s work. In Sleepy Hollow, he packed that cast with a star-studded cast that anyone could have believably been either victim or villain. Of course, since I haven’t seen past this episode, obviously I don’t know with certainty. I'm merely speculating about a hypothesis. The bee kid is adorable. The scene of the conversation between Wednesday and Christina Ricci’s character was great. Christina’s line “Too odd for the normies, not odd enough for the outcasts.” resonated, very deeply. It was sweet how Enid stood up for Thing, particularly seeing as Wednesday was being mean to Thing in this episode. I even said, “You know, I'm with Enid on this one. You need to apologize to Thing for yelling at him all because you were mad that he had a rare moment where he was all thumbs.” The tournament was great, especially how Wednesday and Enid teamed up, loath though Wednesday doubtlessly would be to describe it as a team up. Yeah, an interesting quandary when you’re not rooting for certain characters, yet by the same token they do have most impressive make up. Speaking of looks, I loved the cat outfits and the Joker outfits, and had a warm and affectionate laugh over Tim revisiting his Batman days. On the other hand, with the costumes, I’m not opposed to the costumes themselves. Were I in Wednesday’s shoes, I'd take exception to the costume being sprung on me. If I'm being honest, though, seeing as the theme was The Black Cat, I'd have asked, “Can I dress up as the character played by Bela or Boris from the film, The Black Cat?” I had a major smile on my face at the snap twice part. You talk about the idea of people not wanting to fit in. I think I could make a case of how Wednesday is as aggressive about it as she is so that no one can reject her. You know, kind of a defense mechanism. Concerning the dog, Elvis, I think you should be good. Again, I've not seen past this episode, so take what I say with the tiniest grain of salt. I say you should be good as Tim Burton is most fond of dogs, ergo, I don’t see him letting any harm befall Elvis. Then again, one of his first projects was Frankenweenie, though that actually does end up being one of the sweetest and most heartwarming of his work. Besides which, dark though Tim’s work can be, I struggle to recall offhand any of his films where a dog dies, apart from the aforementioned Frankenweenie. Now, if Elvis was a cat, then you should worry as Tim seems to hate cats; this is the only real strike I have against the man. Both this reaction and your reaction to the first episode were so great. I do hope to continue to share this show with you, Jess. Here's hoping we will have the opportunity.

And at this same time, Gwendoline Christie is also Lucifer in Netflix's The Sandman, more of a morally grey role (it's technically the same Lucifer as in the Tom Ellis show, since that was based on the comic series spun off from the Sandman comic) but definitely leaning toward dark in what we've seen so far.
