You make the statement saying, “My God! I feel like this show’s just going to continuously make me cry!” I don’t doubt it. In this episode, in seeing more of the club, I get the feeling of it being like The Breakfast Club meets The Dream Warriors. The latter is most appropriate considering we have Heather Langenkamp as Dr. Stanton. Had a small laugh at your confessing that you’re a trifle traumatized seeing Samantha Sloyan appear here. I wasn’t, but then again, I'm a sick man who had Bev as my favorite character in Midnight Mass. What can I say? Regarding the stories, from what I've heard, yes, some if not all the stories featured in this show are featured in the books. The story that Anya told was fantastic, I thought. It had a strong Black Swan vibe. I love that movie. I agree with you that the story is relatable in the reconciling to separate parts of oneself. Your reaction to the moment in the story where Dana broke her ankle, that was pretty much the exact same reaction that I had. I love how you got a read on Anya the way that you did. Yes, she is most relatable in that she’s putting up walls of bitterness and sarcasm both to protect herself, and to protect the others as well. I’m reminded of two lines that Hawkeye said in M*A*S*H that I would say feels like what Anya’s mentality is. The first line, “I’m tired of death. I’m tired TO death.” And the second line, “Joking about it is the only way of opening my mouth without screaming.” By this episode, I found Anya was very quickly becoming my favorite of this show. I appreciated how you went into detail on how Amesh expresses lamentation over he won’t get to play the PlayStation, and you didn’t criticize him, nor did you agree with his saying that such a thought is lame. I would add that for some focusing on such things as that is on some level an effective coping mechanism. In that, you start with “I won’t get to play the latest console. I won’t get to see the next installment in the big movie franchise and/or the next and/or final season of the television series I'm watching.” And you focus on that, make peace with each of those things, and you slowly and steadily build to things like, “The people that I love won’t have me in their life anymore, my parents, my siblings, I won’t get to be with them.” or other such thoughts of that nature. Perhaps it wouldn’t be the most conventional coping mechanism, but if it works, it works. And as you observed, it is something Amesh is strongly invested in. And for that reason, it is important. I wholeheartedly agree with you on the fact that this is very much a character driven show like all of Mike Flanagan’s shows have been. Regarding the argument of favoring plot or character, for me, that would depend on the type of story that’s being told. With Flanagan’s shows, I definitely watch for the character focuses and deep dives. It's therefore like you describe in that I'm far less invested in trying to figure out what all the spooky spooks are, and instead, I'm just thoroughly enjoying the character deep dives. As I mentioned on youtube, your post-episode portions of your reactions to the Flanagan shows are most outstanding. I reiterate that I do hope that you continue to react to this show, because I just want to keep sharing this journey with you, Jess. Either way it goes, I'll respect your decision. Thank you for this most wonderful reaction.

Another great reaction! Hope to see more! I can really appreciate how you were able to sympathize and relate to the Labeling Stigma that comes with being a "Gamer". I myself am more of a "movie buff"

Thanks for another great reaction. NGL I really like the character of Anya and she's probably my favourite. I was amazed to read that it's Ruth Codd's first acting role. She's an amputee in real life so that adds authenticity but there's no question that she's there for her acting ability. Clearly Flanagan thought so as he's cast her again in Fall of the House of Usher - which I can't wait to see her in. Anyway, I like how we do see the different sides of her. Yes there's "the wall" of snark and spikiness but look how she acts when returning Rachel's locket. She's so tender about it. Like you I thought it was going to be a different story every week with only a small bit in the hospice but I think I prefer it this way. The stories are not only interesting in themselves but give you an insight into the teller. But also I like that there's an ongoing story in the hospice, a mystery, not just getting to know them as they share stories, but getting to know them as they see shadow ghosts and creepy old ladies with 1930s music in the background and whatever else is going on. I really hope you continue these reactions. I feel like this show is getting overlooked compared to the other Flanagan shows, so maybe the fans of this one are more likely to seek out reactions and find your channel. I hope so. Either way, whether on your own or on camera, enjoy it and, maybe keep the tissues handy!

A great reaction as always. I think this show is fascinating, and I'm enjoying it a lot. I hope you'll find it worthwhile to continue reacting to it.
