This was initially the end of the show, as Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm caused them to shift focus to the new trilogy as well as their own animated series, Rebels. And while a lot of fans were naturally upset, there were also plenty who accepted it, saying that the Council throwing Ashoka under the bus and only Plo Koon being willing to say they were wrong allowed for a very smooth transition to the story of Revenge of the Sith with Palpatine finishing the job of turning Anakin against them. But before starting Rebels, the crew was able to make an abbreviated sixth season for Netflix. And five years later, with the new trilogy and Rebels finished, plus the launch of Disney+ which already featured all of Clone Wars, we finally got a seventh season to wrap everything up.

First off, I loved seeing you get excited about the Ventress and Ahsoka team-up. When you said that “You know you love a character when just the part of the back of her head under a helmet, and you’re like, “Oh. That’s Ventress” I had a small laugh, and said, “Yes. That is accurate.” Major highlight of this reaction was you’re being so disappointed in the Jedi for their treatment of Ahsoka. I loved every single second of that part of the reaction. I’m told that though not shown in the episode, Obi-Wan, Plo Koon, and Yoda all voted against expelling Ahsoka from the Jedi order. The rest of the council, they fed her to the wolves, so to speak. It is a great moment when Ventress points out to Anakin that the treatment Ahsoka is receiving is really no different from what Count Dooku did to Ventress, and how Anakin realizes that Ventress is right. It is fairly obvious past a certain point that Barriss is the culprit, though I think the show designed it so that you’ve pieced it together at least by the time Ventress tells Anakin about how Barriss was the only other person Ahsoka had spoken to. Love the fight between Anakin and Barriss. Yeah, the sentinels, who yes, do have impressive outfits, really just stood off to the side. Barriss’s speech is such a powerful moment, particularly because she is absolutely right about everything she says, save for the claim that the Jedi are responsible for the war. It’s not even the first time that a Jedi has held such beliefs, or at least beliefs that are similar. It’s a prominent reason as to why Count Dooku left the order. He even once said to Qui-Gon “Our predecessors pushed boundaries, explored the galaxy. They made a difference Qui-Gon. Today…Today we’re anachronisms who only act when politicians give their ascent. Half the people here think we’re nothing more than a glorified police force, enforcers for the Senate.” Qui-Gon asks him, “And the other half?” To which Dooku replies, “They don’t think of us at all. We’re an irrelevance.” There is no apology necessary for you continuing to bring up the Jedi order’s desperate need of a therapist. You are more than welcome to keep bringing it up because you are 100% correct that the Jedi need a therapist, and yet for some inexplicable reason, they don’t have one. It makes no sense. You wished to know what the verdict would have been, I think they found Ahsoka guilty, though I may be wrong about that. Brings us to the final scene which is heartbreaking. Ashley Eckstein and Matt Lanter sold those scenes so well. And yes, Ahsoka saying “I know” is meant to say that she knows about Anakin and Padmé. Don’t know exactly when she figured it out, but the line is her way of saying to Anakin that she has put two and two together. That final shot of Ahsoka leaving, followed by the sorrowful presentation of Ahsoka’s Theme gets me every time. I remember when this arc first came out that some people questioned my being upset, and they would say to me, “Wait, why are you upset, Tom? When The Clone Wars started you said you hated Ahsoka.” To which I got defensive and even broke down crying halfway through when I was yelling back, “No, other fans said they hated Ahsoka! I never said I hated Ahsoka! Actually, I’ve GROWN QUITE FOND OF HER, AND NOW THAT SHE’S LEFT MY HEART’S IN PIECES!!” Save for the fact that you’ve seen Ahsoka in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, you’re at the same feeling that the rest of us were when this came out as Ahsoka’s journey past this point was unknown beyond the fact that she was not in Revenge of the Sith, hence why a lot of us thought she would die at some point in The Clone Wars. And it is with this episode that we conclude not only season five, but the series as a whole... on Cartoon Network that is. This aired a few months after Disney bought Star Wars, and at the time they decided that they did not wish to continue Clone Wars, and thus, it was cancelled. Fortunately, Netflix stepped in to provide us with season six. To speak about Ob-Wan for a moment, I know I've said this before, but to reiterate, my primary concern was how you’ve said that you have very little recollection as to what transpires in Revenge of the Sith, which is why I've been on the side of holding off on reacting to it until after you see all of Clone Wars. You say you will be reacting to Obi-Wan following your completion of Clone Wars, and I’m very excited about that. Congratulations on the completion of season five of The Clone Wars, and the Cartoon Network era of The Clone Wars. And thank you for the most excellent reactions. I’m hoping you’re doing well on getting better from covid. Take care, Jess.

Don't worry, you'll see Ahsoka again Sesska. On the Obi-Wan show I can now give my reasons as to why I felt it was too early for you to watch it when it was airing. These two last arcs. I thought they might have a scene where Obi-Wan is on Tatooine and he remembers Satine and potentially her fate, which would have been a big spoiler. And also here, as I wondered if we'd show a scene with Obi-Wan talking with Anakin about Ahsoka's decision to leave, and how it was affecting him especially since we know whats going to happen between Obi-Wan and Anakin/Vader. Alas, we never got either of those, so while it is safe for you to go ahead and watch the series right now, I think getting through Clone Wars first, will also work well with your thoughts on it when you get to it. I always defend the Jedi throughout what is going on here, as they are being twisted and pulled apart by the machinations of the Sith here. However, there is no defending this when they can't see that one of their promising beacons of light isn't guilty of the crimes they are suggesting. The darkside has clouded their ability to have clarity here, and they are becoming increasingly lost as an order. I always listen to the music (in which the series composer Kevin Kiner managed to get a full orchestra for this episode) as Ahsoka is leaving the temple for good. He plays a melancholic version of Light Of The Force, which to me indicates some of the blinding light Ahsoka represents, is leaving them, which is a microcosm of what is going on with them as a whole, they have truly lost their way. Barriss is right in what she says completely, however her actions still cannot be condoned. There is a through-line in certain episodes with Yoda watching Ahsoka and Anakin; the first time we see it, is where they are paired up together in the movie; the second is when she returns in the end of season 3 in the Wookie Hunt episode, where we see just what a strong bond they have, and Yoda is happy that both are coming on as Jedi; and here where he shakes his head, as he knows the Order got it so wrong with Ahoska, did her dirty, and contemplates on how this will affect Anakin with his attachment issues. Its so well done, and now Ahsoka has to rediscover her purpose after her world is torn apart. This was the original ending of Clone Wars when it first aired, as Disney took over and cancelled it, and then started to make their own show, Rebels. However there were a number of episodes near completion when this happened, so a sixth season was produced and put on Netflix to tell some more stories. Season 7 was a lot later after petitions to bring it back!
