One of the best things in the show is how the threat in the games escalates. The first two are purely individual games, so if you have the proper skills you can definitely win. Then there's tug of war, where half the people are going to die no matter what. Then marbles, where another half are definitely going to die with the extra torture of their partner being directly responsible for it. And then the glass panels, where there is absolutely no skill that can help you (outside of the freak chance of being an expert on glass) and you're purely going on luck.

Great reaction. I find Sang-woo fascinating. I've watched a lot of reactors do this show and it's fair to say after episode 6 most of them hate Sang-woo. But actually, both Sang-woo and Gi-hun deceive someone to win. In the end Gi-hun wins because Il-nam gives him the final marble but as far as we know Gi-hun was willing to go through with it. The only real difference is that Gi-hun is visibly sad about it and Sang-woo is not (as much, I think there are glimmers in his face). I think I still like Gi-hun more, because he shows more humanity. But I can relate to Sang-woo.

Yeah, right off the bat, when the show shows us Ali, and rips your heart out all over again, that was quite a gut-punch. While they’re at it, I’m surprised they didn’t also give us a paper cut and pour lemon juice on it. The reveal about the husband and wife, as well as the husband’s suicide, that also was a gut-punch. When the phone received the closeup near the beginning of the episode, more specifically the manner in which the phone was placed on the cradle being different than the manner in which the Front Man does so, I said, “Oh yeah! Forgot about that. Yeah, that’s going to be a giveaway.” You brought up about the cop’s phone battery, I’m frankly amazed that the cop still has battery power in his phone with no discernible method in which to charge it, at least no discernable method that I noticed. You’re right about the cop in that perhaps it’s unfair to solely call him the hero, but he is, I would say, the one character left at this point who is the most morally good. During my watching this show, I’ve been making Eyes Wide Shut jokes. Come this episode, when we see the V. I. P.s, I bust a gut laughing, and I said, “Ok, the Eyes Wide Shut jokes I was making were just that, jokes! I didn’t think the show would lean into it that heavily!” Subsequently, all throughout the time that the V. I. P.s were onscreen, I had both the second movement of Ligeti’s Musica ricercata and the second waltz in Shostakovich’s Suite for Variety Orchestra stuck in my head. I enjoyed your reaction to when they had to choose the numbers. When I watched the episode, I too was uncertain as to the manner in which the numbers would be utilized. One thought I had was that they were going to do a reversal with the numbers as they only said that the numbers indicated the order in which they played. They never actually said that it meant in ascending order or descending order. This whole challenge with the glass reminds me of The Word of God challenge in The Last Crusade. Unfortunately for the players, even if they are aware that in the Latin alphabet, Jehovah begins with an I, that really isn’t going to help much in this scenario. The major highlight of this episode was Mi-nyeo getting her glorious revenge on Deok-su. I’m with you 100 percent in that, much as I did not wish to see her get killed, Lord almighty did she make one HELL of an exit. I wasn’t even that sad and/or mad, I was simply VERY impressed. Your reaction to that moment was everything. I love how it’s difficult to outright call Sang-woo a villain, and his actor does a great job of portraying him as ruthless and pragmatically amoral. It recalls how Alan Rickman described his approach to his portrayal of Hans Gruber, “As far as I'm concerned, I'm not playing the villain. I'm just playing somebody who wants certain things in life, has made certain choices, and goes after them.” Once I got to the end of the episode and we see who the remaining players are, I found that I was ok with any of them winning. I mean both Il-nam and Mi-nyeo are my two favorite characters of the show, and as of this episode they are both eliminated, which was not unexpected, to be fair. So, my thought process was, “Honestly, I could see a case being made for any of the final three as to why they would end up winning. It really depends on which direction the show takes.” A most fantastic reaction as well as most fantastic post-episode thoughts. It was so great, Jess, thanks.

Thanks for this. I have had a horrible day, waking up to a bricked computer, but now I have something to look forward to after work! Watched the early access and commented there already, but will watch the full one tonight.

If they had stopped, the deaths would have still mattered because each of those families would get 100 million won. Stopping is always the most humane thing to do. But people won't because of greed.
