Perhaps Sam would not fit in the small spaces? lol. This ep seemed very random at the time, but it becomes pretty important. I always like when they break down some of Dean's idolization of his family. I imagine without their upbringing, Dean still would have been a nurturer, to his brother and possibly to a family of his own, but with it, his identity is almost entirely wrapped up in Sam, which I find pretty tragic, much as we love these two. Sam's desire to be more of an equal/older brother at this point is such a younger sibling mood. However, I enjoy the return to form in this episode of older brother rushing in to younger brother's rescue, a rare comforting moment in this season. I personally don't feel they deal enough with Dean's Hell PTSD (I mean, he technically spent more time in Hell than on Earth), but as you point out, there is a lot going on. Btw, love the dress!

Supernatural, aka “The Winchesters Need Therapy” 😂😂. I’m not very keen on this episode, or at least, think it’s a funny place to put it, as it has nothing to do with their current situation. It would have made more sense to put it earlier in the season. As usual, your analysis of the brothers is spot on.

I totally agree with your assessment of Sam. For Dean, to me at least, I always felt more like his reaction is anger at his father rather then resentment of Adam. I think he always convinced himself that his dad wasn't there for them for "normal" things because he was saving people (and that is what is most important, right?). We see in the Christmas episode that his dad doesn't show up. Something Dean defends at the time. But now he sees that his dad was capable of being there for someone...just not Dean and Sam. When "Adam" asked what John did for Dean's birthday, you can tell the answer is nothing special. And that's heartbreaking considering all the expectations put on Dean...that his father can't take a few days a year to put him first. I see him in this episode hurt by this realization (which for Dean always presents as anger first). Then I see him move to acceptance. He accepts his dad and him are not alike in the way they view family. John was always focused on protecting his family from physical danger. Whereas Dean has tried to not only protect Sam physically, but also emotionally. In flashbacks, he keeps things from Sam, lies to him, and avoids his questions about their mom and hunting. Because he wants to preserve his innocence, protect him from the truth. He tries to give Sam a Christmas when John is MIA; lying to Sam about it to preserve Sam's image of their father and Sam's self worth. Even with Adam, he goes out to hunt the ghoul alone to protect him physically. But also wants to protect his innocence and freedom to live the life of his own choosing by lying to him. Not because that's what John wanted (even that is what he says) but because it's what Dean wanted for himself. John never protected Dean's innocence or freedom. He never made Dean feel more important than the job (even if John thought he was). When John knew he was going to die and said he was proud of Dean in the hospital, Dean questioned if it was even him talking, because he doesn't believe his dad thinks those things about him. I don't believe Sam would question Dean if he said nice things to him. He would believe them. Because for all his faults and missteps, I do believe that Dean loves Sam unconditionally, and made Sam feel that as a kid. And whether or not John loved his kids unconditionally, he certainly never made them feel that was the case while he was alive. So, yeah, I always felt like his feelings here are entirely about John.

It's frustrating that the baseball game is within a year of John abandoning Dean to hunt alone, the goose chase of season 1 and his not even calling when Dean is dying during Faith. And the one nice thing he says on his deathbed is immediately followed up with the 'save or kill Sam' comment. I can certainly understand Dean's feelings in this episode. I think John loved his sons but actions speak louder than words, dude.
