Haven't watched the reaction yet (still at work) but I love that thumbnail for the video! :D

The more I watch your responses to this era, the more I am certain you're gonna adore the Fourth Doctor. Not that this era isn't enjoyable, but... I just have a feeling...

I adore the pertwee era and the 3rd Doctor. However this is definitely the weakest story of his era in my opinion. As you said it had some good ideas but I just think it was stretched into a 6 part story when it could have easily been a 4 parter.

I have to admit that this story was a bit of a flat pancake for me - which is by far not indicative of this era. I love the concept, the whole Earth Empire story, the trippy bits & how it ended etc but I wasn't overly keen on the characters & found it a bit unengaging in general. From memory it was the last DVD from the 3rd Doctors era to be released over here in the UK & I found it to be a below par story. The last two parts are definitely the best IMO. Thanks for a great reaction & see you next time!

I don't love this story either. I kind of want to because I think it's trying to do interesting things but it gets lost somewhere. I agree about the Marshal being a one-note bad guy. I also would have liked to see more of the Investigator but just because he's a great actor. Can we take a second to talk about the Time Lords and what assholes they are? They send this "box" via the Doctor to Ky and sure enough it turns out to be the key to solving everything and Ky the saviour of his people. I think they must've known what was going on. Do they bother to tell the Doctor? Even if they didn't know everything do they tell him anything? No. Just "here's a box, go deliver it." One of the things I find most challenging about this era of Classic Who is that high-pitched annoying tones are used for both sound effects and "music". I can take dodgy models and cardboard sets all day but some of these episodes are a real assault on the ears. As ever thanks for the reaction. Even with a less good episode watching with you makes it more fun!

Regarding the rawness and pitch of both sound effects and music. I've always had difficulties with life-long sound sensitivity because of Asperger's Syndrome. Having watched these serials upon their original transmission, I don't remember having any issues at the time. Not quite sure where the differences lie however. I have the Doctor Who: The Music album too. Again, no issues, as it still sounds the same as when I bought it. I think it would take an expert in the field to explain where the difference is. I'm sure the creators of the incidental music weren't deafened whilst recording. I think they would have been intelligent enough to pull the plug on their activities before that happened.
