I don't think it's that they're playing a game, rather that as part of their conditioning they think they're watching a game of football / soccer on a television set while they're in "quarantine".

Thanks for another excellent reaction. The issue with some of the longer stories (by no means all or even most of them) is that one or two of the episodes can be a bit 'filler'-ish. I feel that enough happened in this story to keep it interesting though. Looking forward to your reaction for the final part.

It's odd though because there are 4 part stories and 5-,6-,7-part stories and so on. So you'd think they'd fit the number of parts to the story rather than stretch it out.

I think it was primarily budgetary, really - the fewer stories you had in a season, the fewer batches of new sets, costumes, etc. One of the reasons for Sherwin and Bryant bringing the show down to Earth was to save budget, and so if on top of that they could have as few stories as possible it made the money go even further. Obviously Letts and Dicks weren't so keen on the seven-parters so struck more of a balance, but still with mostly six-parters in their seasons.

The actor who plays Lennox seems to play the frightened character role a fair bit. I knew it was Viner from Tomb Of The Cybermen the moment I saw him!
