I don’t usually comment, but I just wanted to say how grateful I am that you’re reacting to this. It might sound trivial when it’s just a tv show, but I love it so much and your reactions are really helping me at a difficult time, so thank you! You’re clearly a very empathetic person, so I hope it hasn’t caused you too much trauma! I’m glad you used the word “beautiful” to describe it, though, because I think (as with classic literature) that there is a pure kind of beauty that sometimes comes from tragedy (in fiction at least!). As you said, the one thing that wasn’t in any doubt by the end was the power of James and Alyssa’s love for each other. I agree with you about James’ dad, but the way I interpreted his “hate” comment was that it was born solely out of grief for his mother, and in a strange way it confirmed there wasn’t any true animosity there, just guilt and confusion. Anyway, I can’t wait for the next series, which I think ultimately completes the story-arc in the most perfect and satisfying way!
