Hello my lovelies! So for this discussion, I thought we could all talk about one of the more mysterious characters of the show....Varys. Now we certainly know more about him now than we did at the beginning of the show. But I would like to get everyone's thoughts on his character and what his motives really are. I believe he does genuinely want the good for the realm but I have heard people say otherwise. What do you think drives him? For those of you who read the books, do they go into more detail? And what do you expect from him in the future?

I think he really does care about the realm. I do not remember the books giving much more information about him than the show (but I forgot a lot which is why I am re-reading them). He is very different in his appearance in the books. I like the way he is on the show vs how he is described in the books. There is pretty big plot differences for him in the books too but I wont go into them for spoiler reasons. However, as I said I do not remember major differences in his motives. Maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong.

In the books he is keeping a Targaryen male hidden within the city of Kings Landing apparently that he was going to use as part of his "Targaryen Restoration" plan..but I think they got rid of this altogether and he's just aiding fully in Daeny's story line..I believe Varys is everything Littlefinger is not...They both are men who have earned everything they got without having a family name or any royal blood in their veins. Varys always represented order to the realm while Littlefinger represented chaos. Both of these characters had the best scenes earlier on in S1 I thought. I think Varys is on the good side when it comes to his motives and what not, so I hope he makes it to the end.
