Where are the fiiiiiiiiiiiiiles!?!?!?!? sad fsce

sesskasays

Some files have been blocked over the time of about a year. I am currently making my way through reuploading them. I put the current payment period first and then reupload the files from past payment periods when I have free time.

Dylan Cooper

Aw, thank you for uploading this again - I know you're really busy with your main channel at the moment so it's really considerate of you to do this. I genuinely loved these reactions, so it's nice to revisit them.

Mark McKeown

Woohooooo, can't wait :)

Kyle

YAY! :-)

Dave Ford

Woot! Great - now I need to choose between ice-cream and sunshine and staying in doors watching you watch a movie. I know buy ice-cream in the sunshine, then eat it while watching you watch a movie. Great weekend!

Kyle

Seska - there's nothing wrong with any of the characters; they're just 14. :-)

Dylan Cooper

Wow, that was a brilliant reaction, especially the last 20 minutes or so. I'd completely forgotten just how sad that Cedric scene was until I found myself in tears along with you, it's his dad's reaction that got me. I'm really glad you seem to be enjoying the movies more and more as we progress through them, my particular favourite is yet to come and I'm looking forward to seeing your opinions to each of the remaining movies. Harry is one of my favourite character's in the film so seeing you cheering him near the end was nice. I totally get your frustration with everything always happening to Harry, it just makes me feel sorry for him at this point because he really doesn't like the attention lol. Really looking forward to the next film reaction, the series has officially entered the darker end of the spectrum what with the return of Shnugglepuss :') Thanks for another brilliant reaction!

Anonymous

Another brilliant reaction! I think you're going to enjoy the next 4 films a lot more! There is more action, and a lot more twists to the plot. I had to think carefully how to phrase the next bit so there were no spoilers. - There will be a lot more snakes (especially in film 8) - You will find out a lot more about Snape (films 5, 6 and 8), don't look it up though because it will spoil it for you. - You're probably going to cry a lot more - A lot more characters are going to return and a lot more characters are going to be introduced. - There is a lot more action/fight scenes (those who know the films will know which ones I mean).

Dave Ford

Great - the film that started my affection for Neville! Glad to see you're enjoying the films more and more. I think i'd have liked this more than film 3 if I wasn't so put off by the underlying structure of the tournament - it just seemed over long 'questing' for the sake of it - almost like finding a way to pad the school year out. On Snape, in the books, much (but not all) of his backstory is revealed by Harry's use of Dumbledore's flashback- bucket, the Pensieve. These are not properly covered in the films, and I might suggest that it's worth reading the relevant passages if you're really intrigued. Moment in this story which really sends shivers up my spine though is that classroom scene with the spider. After seening the flashback later on you release that the curse that Moody was demonstrating on that spider to Neville was the curse that Barty Crouch Jnr had used to torture and eventually kill his parents. Which explains why Neville was freaking out. It also explains why 'Moody' had picked out Neville to demonstrate it with - that scene is properly sadistic and we don't even realise it at the time.

George Alexander

What a treat this was, its so brilliant to see you engaging with the story and characters, even though its not really your favourite genre. This is one of my favourite HP movies !! and I just knew you would love it, like Hermonie said "Everything's going to change now isn't it?" a turning point in the series. 100% agree with everyone being off in this movie, I guess Puberty hit the characters all at once hahahah. I love your intrigue into Snape's character, he is such a interesting guy isn't he? I think you will really enjoy the next 4 movies, cannot believe you are halfway through already! cannot wait to share the rest of the journey with you, these reactions really make me look forward to the beginning of each month. Was soo good to see you tear up at the end of the graveyard scene , I just love Lily Potter !!! , bring on next month <3

George Alexander

hey dave, sorry to correct you , but the longbottoms where never actually killed by the curse. Frank was deemed insane, and lost his capability to function in society. He and Alice were placed in the permanent ward of St Mungo's Hospital, where they resided for the rest of their lives not being able to recognise their son, when he visited

A.D

forever one of my favourites and your reaction was priceless, when you laughed i laughed and when you cried i cried!

Opti_Frog

I had enjoyed the previous films, but Goblet of Fire is what made me read the books. It is immense. It thrills me that this is your favorite so far. To this day, it's my favorite HP film of them all. And i really don't mind that half of the subplots and characters from the book are missing. As adaptations go, this is pretty damn good. I have some issues, naturally, that i'll get to. First things first, Harrys hair. No matter what people think about Mike Newell's decision to have all the main teens grow their hair out (i like it), this is the only film (perhaps a bit in PoA as well) in which Harry has hair that somewhat resembles his description in the books. Combing Harry's hair does nothing. It never lies flat. The three main leads are all scraggy, bucktoothed and freckly nerds in the books, which kind of diminishes the movie version of Hermiones transformation at The Yule Ball, because she was already beautiful, but it's still an amazing sequence. All the books have a mystery at it's core, but this is the one that's a whosdunnit. Everyone is a suspect, and red herrings abound. We're starting to see some pretty horrific darkness in other people's past, not just Harry's. Not sure you caught it in the scene where the ministry is interrogating Karkaroff, but Barty Crouch Jr along with a gang of other death eaters, tortured Neville's parents (with the cruciatus curse) for information about Shnugglepuss’s whereabouts after the fall of Shnugglepuss. Crouch Jr, the sick bastard, polyjuiced into Mad-Eye Moody, knows exactly what he's doing when he tortures the spider in front of Neville. "Severus Snape was indeed a death eater." Ooooh. A traitor to Shnugglepuss' cause, or still a loyal follower? The answers are coming. Cedric Diggory's death raises the stakes for the series. It's so effective. One second he's there, bravely facing up to Wormtail. The next, he's gone. Harry clinging to the body of his romantic rival is pretty heartbreaking, but it's Amos Diggory's grief at the loss of his son that really thrusts this series from children's entertainment to young adulthood. Pretty powerful stuff. My issues are, again, mainly with exposition. It's understandable, though. The books have huge information dumps where people are just sitting around, talking. It bothers me much less here than in PoA. But i'm not fond of of they handled things in the maze. It does not bother me that they completely changed the contents of the maze from the book, but for the longest time i could not figure out what was up with Krum during, and after, the third task. "People change in the maze," said Dumbledore. If that's what happened, it didn't really affect any of the others. It is frustratingly vague, and does not seem like a fair contest. Well, it never was, but that was supposed to be because of Moody. So now, after reading the books, i insert my knowledge of the story into the film, in my head. Moody used the imperius curse on Krum to have him clear the way to the cup for Harry. Also, Hermione seeems to have something in her throat troughout this film. I don't know what weird acting choise made her so breathless, but it seems really forced and unnatural. Overall though, they took a massive sprawling book, where each task of the tournament is given one chapter only, and condensed it into a tight, funny thriller that looks gorgeous. And at the end, The Dark Lord Shnugglepuss rises again. Beautifully overplayed by Ralph Fiennes, walking a tight line between menace and camp. Or, in his own words: "All I knew was that my character, Shnugglepuss, is the big, big Mr Evil who's more evil than anyone's ever been evil before. To be honest, I didn't like the first two films, they didn't do anything for me. But I thought, 'Aw, fuck it. It's so far from everything else I've done. It's two days work for a big fuck-off Mr Evil scene." Indeed.

Opti_Frog

Oh, and Ron. Dear Ron. Apart from a massive scene in a later movie, this is Ron at his absolute best for me.

Monty Magpie

David Tennant wasn't the only Doctor Who actor to appear in this film. Barty Crouch Sr was played by Roger Lloyd Pack. The same actor who was John Lumic in the Cybermen two-parter from series 2 (Rise of the Cybermen & The Age of Steel)

Muppeteer

also Dumbledore and even Filch who played the actor who played the original doctor , albeit in a none DW series drama based on the creation of the show. That's the thing with Brits a smaller pool of professional actors and they always seem believable, most of them seem to avoid typecasting. Oh forgot moaning Myrtle too.

Jeff Clark

It's really strange that they didn't include the scenes near the end of the story where Snape is sent back to Voldemort by Dumbledore...really, really strange. That's a huge point of the movies. In fact, watching these back with Jess makes me realise just how little character development he's given when really he should get a lot more screentime. They also do a very poor job of portraying Harrys relationship with Dumbledore, which would have gone some way to explaining to Jess why he is seen as the favourite. Having said that, worth remembering that the books and movies are literally all called "Harry Potter", and so you're kind of wasting your breath getting upset about how much the movies focus on him ;)

Janel Rodriguez

Snape is way meaner in the books. His personal hatred of Harry is very clear on the page. And whenever Harry complains about it, the teachers pooh pooh him. And Harry suffers more in the books and you have a better idea of how much he does not want the attention and preferential treatment, and he is bullied and abused. Although he is also, of course, sometimes the golden boy and celebrity. I love the part in this movie when he has a weak moment and kind of wants to leave Cedric behind and get the cup. Temptation! He is flawed and human, not perfect. I like that. The book version is HUGE and has three times as much story as the movie! There's a lot about Hermione fighting for social justice for house elves like Dobby. And the last hundred pages, wen Voldemort returns, is riveting. I definitely recommend the books. I held off reading them for a long time. Now I've read them 4 times each (the last one 5, as it's my favorite) and have started reading them again. I am not a big fantasy person. This is fantasy but also wit a lot of our world and rather allegorical politically. (Again, much stronger in the books).

Janel Rodriguez

Without any spoilers, there is a character in the next movie whom I hate more than Voldemort, because this person is realistically evil. The other patrons will know who I mean. I look forward to seeing your reaction to that person. Sadly, there is minimal Ron in that film because a Ron storyline that is supposed to be in that film that is instead inserted in the sixth film. There is also a new student character in the next film that I look forward to seeing you react to...

Okay, here we go, I am LATE TO THE PARTY. First off, because I’ve yet to give up some kind of coherent structure for these comments, some small stand-out moments: - The reaction to Filch running will forever be the best thing ever. - "Dumbledore about to smack a bitch” Oh sess you have no idea how up in arms Potter fans get about how that line was delivered, people are very invested, it’s ridiculous :D (It’s because in the book it was described as ’Dumbledore said calmly’. People apparently didn’t think the movie version was calm enough.) - I think the "strange thing” that was up with everyone this movie is called puberty. At least that’s what I’ve heard. - "Let’s all have a shot of vodka” a good way to deal with puberty perhaps? - You being invested in Hagrid and Madam Maxime’s romance is adorable. There was more of it in the books but I’m SO glad they included some of it in the movie. - Speaking of, your reaction to everything Neville this movie. Neville dancing with Ginny followed by Sesska’s SCREAM was also adorable. - ”I WOULD GO WITH NEVILLE” same - ”Well mannered frivolity” is a great line. - Snape becoming increasingly more DONE with Harry and Ron as they keep talking and pushing their heads down into their books is one of my favorite Snape scenes. - ”I’m pretty sure Draco wants your dick, Harry” oh my god Sess - Someone must have written a fanfic where Harry and Draco go to the Yule Ball together. I’m sure of it. Somewhere it exists. - ”Ron and Hermione need to dance” yeah… sorry. - Second ridiculously big controversy - everyone flipped their shit when Hermione’s dress was pink instead of blue in the movie. It was like some Disney’s Sleeping Beauty battle. - Filch dancing with his cat is, I think, the only time I’ve said ”aww” about Filch. - When Moody came and said that McGonagall wanted to see Ron and Hermione and you said ”Are they going to go on a date?” all I could think of was McGonagall as the official Hogwarts matchmaker - I bet she occasionally drags Snape into it as well. He’s far less amused by it. - In general I need more in both books and movies about Snape and McGonagall being colleagues but also fierce rivals about their houses. - ”He’s a white walker” I laughed - ”IT’S SCHNUGGLEPUSS” You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting to hear you say that. - Oh my god I’ve never noticed that random death eater awkwardly clapping in the back as Harry and Voldemort duel. What is up with that guy?? - I don’t know who made the decision about the hairstyles for this movie - but I would like to have a talk with them. - I too wanted to give Ron a hug the entire movie. Hermione and Harry as well, but Ron is precious. And now, for some longer things! First off, I want to draw your attention to the most hilarious deleted scene in history for you to imagine. It’s Snape running around after the Yule Ball in the snow and snapping at couples who are making out in the carriages (while Karkaroff is hounding him about the Dark Mark and Snape being DONE). You can watch it here ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGJLjp9JpzA ) but I’d be careful about spoilers in the sidebar, because sadly they can appear anywhere. :/ Another thing that kept coming up, I just have one simple answer for. Everyone is Extra™. Why is Draco in a tree, waiting to talk to Harry? Because he's Extra™. Why is Voldemort’s mark a skull with a snake in it? Extra™. Why anything ever in this universe? Extra™. That first scene makes little sense in the movies really, but if it wasn’t made clear by the grave in the graveyard, that was the manor of Voldemort’s father and his father’s parents. Tom Riddle was his father’s as well as Voldemort’s own name (as we learned in HP2). Speaking of that, how long do you think it took Voldemort to come up with a cool enough sounding anagram to Tom Marvolo Riddle before he came up with ”I am Lord Voldemort”? And imagine what his real name would be if SCHNUGGLEPUSS was his anagram name. Your Draco and Harry comments are always hilarious. I suppose Harry’s laughter and glee at Draco’s misfortunes comes off a bit more… sinister in the movies, considering they focus more on the rival aspect of their relationship than the fact that Draco is a bully. I too enjoy his clothing style though, I’d have to agree. :D But yeah, Harry is VERY obsessed with bad things happening to Draco, and vice versa. The boys have issues. Don’t know if you caught it in the midst of ”Oh hi David Tennant is back”, but Barty Crouch Jr was involved in torturing Frank Longbottom and his wife - Neville’s parents. That’s why Neville reacts so strongly to Moody showing off the Crutiatus curse. Yep, everything is still about Harry. To he fair, in this one he really didn’t want or benefit from the attention. So, lots of Hermione and Ron drama in this. While I totally understand and appreciate your investment in the two, I don’t think Hermione’s behaviour was unreasonable, considering Ron acted kind of like an ass (in regards to that, not in regards to the Harry thing. He’s very understandably bitter there). Because he was jealous and unsure, certainly, but you know. :P And Krum was actually really nice to Hermione. I guess the thing is because in the books they focus SO MUCH on how Hermione is never orderly in her appearance and is very much a messy bookish nerd, she must have felt very appreciated when the popular jock took an interest in her. And the fact that she was so happy to dress up and be pretty, and then she’s so sad when her friends can’t even be happy for her (though I totally get why) - it kind of breaks my heart. But it also breaks my heart that they never got to dance. I’m just imagining you Sesska being the opposite of cockblocking Snape or Harry and just locking them together in a broom closet and telling them to talk things out and then make out. Speaking of Ron and his argument with Harry… I kind of understand that he snapped. He’s one of seven siblings, he comes from a very poor household, and even though his family loves him, he’s very used to always getting second or third best. And then he has this friend who always, to him, seems to get everything. Of course, Harry can’t help it all this time, and it’s all a misunderstanding, but Ron being jealous is understandable considering where he comes from. And he gets over it on his own, realizing that he was wrong (I would have liked some more realization on Harry’s part though), and apologizing. He doesn’t want to argue with Harry, clearly, and he still tries to help him, but once he’s snapped he doesn’t really know how to make it better again, and Harry doesn’t know how to handle it either. Sigh. These two. About Snape - yeah, as far as we know at this point, he has a Dark Mark (he even shows it in the book, but I guess they ran out of time), which is why Karkaroff is hounding him and telling him ”You must have felt it too” and such. According to that memory, he used to be a Death Eater but jumped sides and became a spy for Dumbledore and that side. In the book he even shoves his arm under the Minister of Magic’s nose when he refuses to believe Voldemort is back. Now, where the truth is in all that mess and where that may lead, I guess we’ll have to wait and see. ;) But it’s good that you’re curious. I haven’t cried at Cedric’s death for years, because I haven’t really rewatched this movie or reread the book in ages. However, your reaction to it really made me break down again. It’s just so tragic. And it’s not a ’heroic’ death per say, it’s death as it happens. He was there and alive and brave one moment, and then a second later he was dead, just like that. No grand gestures, no time to say goodbye. ”Kill the spare” - because to Voldemort, everyone he can’t use is just spares, unimportant. The way he steps on Cedric’s face makes me mad every time. And then, Harry clinging to his body, not wanting to let go, and Cedric’s father’s reaction… It’s all tragic, and it’s making everything so very real. It’s not just ’ooh, Voldemort is back, things will change’. It’s things already changing because someone just lost their life because Voldemort tried to get to Harry and Cedric got in the way, and it’s so unfair. And it really is the game changer movie, not ONLY because Voldemort is back, but as a consequence of that, it’s time for these kids to grow up much faster than they should have to. Well, that’s a cheery note to end it on. It’s only going to get more cheerful from here on out. Trust me. No snakes, just monkeys (Sorry, no, that’s not true, I’m a liar). But I’m so glad you enjoyed this movie, I had a great time rewatching it with you, with many laughs despite the somber ending. I really think you’re going to like the upcoming films, or at least I hope so. Glad you liked this one! I really do too. I like that it's a kind of mystery, where everyone's a suspect, and you find out a bit more backstory but you can't quite figure it out, but if you rewatch it, all the little details sync up and foreshadowing becomes clear. And the action is really nicely done and paced out, which I think a lot of the other films fail at. Can’t wait for the next one though!

Opti_Frog

I actually hadn't seen that deleted scene. That was fun. This is the best outtake, from PoA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1WliDF5JtY

Janel Rodriguez

I'm thinking she should probably avoid outtakes and such on YouTube until she is done only because of how spoilerific the sidebar can be. Seriously. I am glad, Jess, that you enjoyed this movie so much, because like you, when I saw this fourth film, I preferred it to the previous three. I liked it because relationships evolve and the school seems so bustling and alive. It was direct4ed by the same director of FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL, and he made it quintessentially British and very enjoyable. Many people complain about this movie because it is literally only about a third of the book. And the book IS amazing, but I saw the movie before reading the book, which helped me to enjoy it more.

Random thoughts: First of all, I love your dress! The pattern on the skirt part is gorgeous! Now that you mention it, I can see the 'young Claire Danes' in Fleur Delacour. She always reminded me of Amber Benson. Neville Longbottom is The Man. I'm so glad you love him almost as much as Ron! :-) Neville had amaaaazing character development in the books and they do a pretty good job of bringing that to the screen. I have a suspicion that he will only grow more precious to you as the films go along. "Are they in trouble? Are they gonna go on a date?" **LOL** If only! So, here is an answer to a question you had in one of the previous films. (I think it was the 2nd one, but I'm not sure.) This won't spoil anything going forward, BTW. There is an actual reason that Harry has to live with his abusive aunt and uncle. Schnugglepuss says that he's been unable to touch Harry due to the fact that his mother Lily sacrificed her life for Harry's, sealing an old "blood magic" protection. We see this in the first film, when the professor possessed by Voldemort disintegrates at Harry's touch. That protection lives on in the blood of Lily's sister, Harry's aunt. From the book: "While you can still call home the place where your mother's blood dwells, there you cannot be touched or harmed by Voldemort. He shed her blood, but it lives on in you and her sister. Her blood became your refuge. You need return there only once a year, but as long as you can still call it home, there he cannot hurt you." - Dumbledore. So while it sucks that he has to live with those hateful people, it did protect him all this time. This first student fatality is so sad! I have to leave off with another book quote, cuz Cedric's death warrants a hug! "Mrs. Weasley set the potion down on the bedside cabinet, bent down, and put her arms around Harry. He had no memory of ever being hugged like this, as though by a mother." I love the films but miss these little moments. Weasleys are the best.

Super late to the party. Fantastic reaction. It's so much more fun watching it along with you than alone. It's fun watching it with my kids, too, but they don't provide the same level of commentary. Maybe when they hit middle school.
