What's a good group to get into? (Patreon)

yo! 

looking for you guys' suggestions on good groups to get into! the way we started to do iKON was pretty cool and I wanna see if I can get into another group in a similar way. Good tunes, good personalities within the group (humor or relatability) and artists that put a lot of thought into their music/have a big part in the creation of their music (besides just singing it) are points that I feel I look at a lot but all those checkmarks don't have to be filled. Just looking for good vibes. 

can be boy or girl groups but i'd prefer that they have their own show or mini shows or something that are enjoyable to watch - variety show appearances can count too if ya want


*speaking of iKON we'll go in order of their discography and those videos will start next week. i'll likely be listening to chung ha/nct 127 album and stuff today and posting 2NE1 album this weekend/monday! it all depends since i'm supposed to be going out of town until saturday, on tuesday, so we'll see what i can get done before then*

Since you mentioned song creation i feel like you should give Bigbang a chance. Since they were the ones who revolutionized idols being involved in music making but they weren’t really in a lot of variety show content, most of them are old. I would also recommend Winner, they’re such a unique group and a hilarious one as well. I feel like many fans in the West sleep on them.

I know I always suggest them, but truly Monsta X!! They're my ultimate group along with iKON due to their incredible music, down to earth personalities, humor, and amazing artistry with their music! Their relationship with each other and fans is unmatched!!! And their shows are some of the funniest idol variety shows I've seen! I would also suggest GOT7 and ATEEZ! They're easy to get into, have great music &, personalities as well!

Personally I think Stray kids (since they’re really involved with their music) or even Seventeen, they both have great personalities and music of course.

EXO, winner, btob! EXO has a few shows from the time they were ot12 until now. Winner have winner tv and winner vacation: bell boys with only mino and seungyoon. I would suggest BigBang but most of their content is super old except for run BigBang scout which is like a few years old. I don’t know much about newer groups so this is hard lol. Most of the groups I’ve watched content for are usually 2nd generation with the exception of a few

SHINee, they have old and new content and have an amazing discography that is unique. Their personalities are so good would instantly fall in love with all of them.

I would definitely say seventeen or stray kids! Stray kids music seems more your style but I’m pretty biased since SVT are my ults lol. they’re absolutely hilarious and have such a good bond and really great variety content. Also it’s so interesting to see their content of them doing recordings and practices and stuff because they’re so involved and write and direct a lot of the stuff they do. Even their variety stuff like going seventeen is partly planned by them and they’re involved in the ideas a lot! Literally kings I love them so much haha. Stray kids are also really really funny and produce basically all their music so I’d recommend them too!

I suggest EXO maybe you can watch exo ladder s2 and be intrduced to them. Or maybe shinee? I don't know much about shinee but they have intresting and one of kind music so if you are into that.... This is beside the point but nct have this behind the scenes vidoes of the process of them recording their albums I think you might like it

I also want to throw in NCT, imo they have the best content and are definitely entertaining to watch, and of course they’re music is good too. Even though they’re a more complicated group they’re all really talented and definitely worth getting into.

WINNER! I was waiting for you to ask this! Cuz I was so happy you got into iKON and now I would be happier if you check out WINNER as well! WINKON are my favorites! They have shows such as WINNER TV and Half Moon Friends (where they were teachers at daycare lol) and they also have Youth Over Flowers (where they traveled with nothing lol) also you can check WIN: Who Is Next it will show you both groups talents in music really well!

Definitely Seventeen! To add - all of their music is written and produced (and sometimes they help in choreographing) by themselves, their music is excellent and really diverse (their 2019 album An Ode was considered the best K-pop album in 2019), their show Going Seventeen is hilarious - to the point in Korea, there's a fake fanclub based off Seventeen"s fanclub name - Cubic Zirconas - aka people who aren't fans of seventeen but are fans of the show. They also come up with the initial concepts and the producers refine their ideas to create the episodes. They're all hilarious, hard working and really nice people from what we can tell, so I would definitely suggest them!

You should definitely check out The Boyz, Nct or Ateez they are really fun to get into, I also got into them by watching their variety shows etc. and I think you would like them, I think the dynamics in these groups are kinda similar to ikon and Nct and The Boyz have such a variety of content that everyone can enjoy

To add something different from the mix, since no one mentioned them still (!) I would suggest: PENTAGON DAY6 Both are self produced (PTG after first 2 ep, DAY6 had to as a condition to debut), and a varied discography and great vocals. I feel like they are reletable probably because they tend to be straightforward and passionate about the meaning of their music. They also of course have the chaotic energy required as idols. For content I would go for appearances as tv shows or youtube content, there is a lot out there and can reccomend lots.

Definitely ATEEZ, Stray Kids, TXT, G-Idle. These are the groups that I really freak out over, aside from BTS which is my ult. And they pretty much all fit the criteria you mentioned. In terms of humor and personalities, I especially hope you'll check out ATEEZ's shows. GOLD!

I forgot to mention in my other comment but WINNER also writes their own music and have a lot of input in what they do and in their concepts as well! Yoon and Mino are the main composers! And Hoony also writes lyrics with them! Taehyun the former member also composed songs while he was still in the group! You can tell they make their own music they have a distinctive style! Funfact: Empty their debut title was written by B.I ! I would love to see you checking their music out after finishing with iKON’s music! They both are such great groups!

I’d say for boygroups, either BTOB, Day6, Seventeen or Pentagon. They’re all well known for being selfproduced and honestly have some of the strongest vocals in the kpop scene. BTOB especially are hilarious and have some really fun reality stuff I could recommend. :) Day6 too (“day6 moments every new myday should know” is a really fun video) I’m currently making a guide video for Pentagon so when I’m finished with that I’ll link it here. And Seventeen: there’s an amazing carat that made a video called “seventeen the movie” that is a perfect in depth introduction to their team and their concept.

1) Stay Kids -I feel like now is a great time to dive into them cuz you're already aware of how good their music is and they put a lot of thought and effort into being self-producing. 2) no one's really mentioning any girl groups and while I haven't watched any shows either here are the ones I think meet your criteria: (G)I-DLE, EXID, TWICE (some may disagree but I believe the members have had a number of songwriting and producer credits over the years, especially recently), Mamamoo I think the other groups being mentioned are all good choices so I won't repeat them except to say I'd be most curious about Pentagon I've always wanted to check them out deeper.

I also recommend AKMU. They are a brother sister duo group under YG Entertainment who were on KPOP Star season 2, which is kind of like American Idol for Kpop stars. The majority of their songs are written and produced by the brother Lee Chanhyuk. In my opinion, I have never heard a bad song from them.

I would suggest The Boyz, they have their own variety show in which they had their own restaurant. When it comes to personality and relatability, The Boyz are where it's at. They are very involved in their work, such as designing album covers, writing lyrics, releasing self produced song on sound cloud, etc. I would really appreciate you getting to know them (if not, that's fine too, I stan almost everyone anyway.)

i'd probably say seventeen! their personalities are so fun and they have big role in writing/producing their own music, especially the member woozi! plus their show going seventeen is a really good way to get to know them

my vote is for monsta x. they would probably be the easiest to get into bc they have a couple good shows (right now and xray) that don't require you to know anything about them already and are easier to follow than a show like going seventeen, which i love but it's edited in a way that makes it really fast and sometimes hard to follow without rewatching scenes, especially if you don't already know the members. also i think i learned monsta x's names the quickest of any group. v easy to get into. my fav group is ateez but all their shows have been boring as hell imo (combination of budget and editing i think). got7 and btob seem really funny from what i've seen but i don't know much about their shows

Seventeen (self produced ALL music), Monsta X (self produced a lot of their music), Stray Kids (self produced ALL music) or The Boyz (i think they have helped self produce some songs and Sunwoo writes his own raps, but not too sure. I only got into them a year ago)! I listed these groups, as they have the most variety show options that allow you to get into them and they're also groups you already seemed to enjoy the music of :)

I'd vote for P1harmony. They have debuted for a couple of months now. Their music and personalities are so good! Also, eventhough these groups aren't as active or aren't active at all, I think that it'll be interesting for you to check out groups who debuted in the late 2000s-2012. For example, U-KISS, TeenTop, Infinite, Beast, Super Junior, Girls Generation, KARA, etc... If you want to check out OLD KPOP look into 1st generation idols like, SechKies, H.O.T, g.o.d, S.E.S, Finkl, SHINHWA(still active since 1998), etc...

3 groups I would recommend are Seventeen, Day6, and Winner! All of them play a large part in making their own music from the writing to the production! Seventeen probably has the most content you could react to because they have a pretty wide discography and also variety content! Day6 and Winner don't have as much variety content but their music + music videos are very high quality and meaningful in my opinion!

If you are talking about groups having a hand in their own music qua production and writing, then all boy groups of YG entertainment come to mind: BIGBANG, (they have a documentary how they became a group), WINNER of course. A sibling group I would recommend is AKMU. Another group is Super Junior, they are hilarious!!! Supreme Vocals.

BIGBANG, although everyone knows of them, I feel like most people don't actually try to get past their mainstream songs which is quite unfortunate as they've been around for so long and some of the members (namely Daesung) is such power vocal that people ignore because he isn't Taeyang, GD, or TOP

My vote is always gonna be for TWICE!! They have really amazing, entertaining personalities and a lot of enjoyable, lighthearted content (their current reality/variety show Time to Twice has come out almost weekly since last summer and constantly changes theme, from murder mystery, to camping, to variety minigames, etc.) and they play a much larger role in the direction and production of their music than people give ever them credit for, especially in recent years! Not to mention, they have some incredible bsides that people miss when only looking at title tracks. As my ult group, I think that anyone who gives them a chance can really fall in love and they're absolutely worth your time, though I understand that their inital music style might not be everyone's taste, and because their content is primarily on the bright, lighthearted side, you don't often get as much of the background on music production and the insanely hard work they always put in (aside from maybe some vlives, their survival show Sixteen, and some behind-the-scenes Twice TV episodes) as you might be looking for :)

I think now that you’ve done ikon you should do winner, there show was like Ikons and I remember it being a lot of fun winner tv(when they had 5 members), half moon friends, youth over flowers etc but got7, monstax, seventeen, and twice shows are also fun

Everyone always reacts to the same groups and shows and as someone who watches multiple reactors and pays for different patreons..it is so much more fun to see different reactors react to different groups at the same time. I think it would be really cool if you reacted to a 2nd/3rd gen group. It would allow you to get to know variety content from before and see the dynamics of kpop and groups in 2nd/3rd gen. I really think you would like Super Junior or Shinee. Both are so funny and iconic. People always forget about the the older generation

Even though it was a one time thing, you can look into Refund Sisters. It has Uhm Junghwa, Lee Hyori, Jessi, and Hwasa. You can watch how they come together on the show "How do you Play". It is available on VIKI. Their story starts on episode 57.

I’m biased but Monsta X, idk i just feel like they’re so relatable especially because they lean into that mature vibe rather than the typical cute-sy boy group vibe. Plus they have so many variety shows to get to know them and they play a big role in music production and whatnot. Main thing i love about them is you can truly tell they’re super close to each other. I remember watching a video from a staff that worked with several idol groups before and she said the one thing that stuck out about them was how close they were and how they even hung out together even when they don’t have schedules (which trust me is rare since groups usually spend every single second with each other so typically during free time they do things with other people)
