I’m heading out of the city for a lovely couple of weeks hanging out with friends on a massive campsite full of cool folks, but before I left I thought we could head back to “My Private Jakalla” and explore another stretch of this expanding megadungeon project.

The goal of this long-term project is to make a large set of maps that interconnect to produce something thematically similar to the original Jakallan Underworld map that M.A.R. Barker used in his Empire of the Petal Throne games.

This is the thirteenth map in the set - detailing a section of the undercity that is a collection of old ruins and more recent undercity construction – but even the more recent structures are old and the only section that is actively maintained is the temple structures on the upper left quadrant. This section is almost completely devoid of sewers except where somebody thought they had broken into the city sewer system on the left (where they had actually broken into a void in some older ruins that were in turn cut off from the main understructures here). This void is now over half full of refuse and excreta and has been slowly leaking into the passages beyond.

The unifying element of this area are the quite ancient grid-like catacombs here that have been mostly destroyed to make way for other construction. Linked to these catacombs is an old temple structure with a massive statue of a resting beast (a sphinx type monster of some kind?) with a door between the front paws that leads down to a sunken gallery with columns along the centre that in turn leads into the next map in the set.

Of the many areas in this undercity, this region is probably one of the sections with the most likelihood of running into horrors and terrors and monsters lurking within the old catacombs and ruined temple structures.

This map connects to 1K twice along the bottom and to future maps on both the right and left. The only connection to the surface is the guarded temple understructures on the upper left and there are no connections to the lower levels in this area.

The map is available for download with and without grid from the blog post at https://rpgcharacters.wordpress.com/2017/07/28/my-private-jakalla-map-1m/
