((Y/N)'s POV)

Today was Sunday and I was home alone after I just got yelled at last night for just trying to cheer my dad up after he got hurt while working. He talked about some other mean cop shoving an old man to the ground so all cops get blamed and I guess I sat too close to him. Mom did not help me with him because she was just so tired and when I woke up this morning I went to the bathroom to look in the mirror to clean off my tear stains in the sink before I went to get some breakfast. I just got a bowl of cereal and turned on the T.V. to watch cartoons, but I couldn't enjoy them since my parents have just been so angry and mean these past few months. After I finished my bowl my cartoons stopped and I heard a loud beeping noise on the T.V. that my mom and dad say comes on when there is an emergency.

T.V.-This is not a test. We advise all residents to stay home and lock their doors to await-.

It suddenly stopped and went back to my cartoons, so I went to check the door and saw it was already locked. I went back to watching my cartoons while sitting on the couch. Nothing bad ever happens in this neighborhood from what my dad says, so I just ignored those things and wait for my show to come back on.

(???'s POV)

F.O.N. was sent out to start collecting humans and many of us helped. I used my smell to help track down stragglers while human adults and children were being taken out of buildings. From what I see you can just herd most children and a few adults that just looked scared while many other adults and a few children were trying to make a run for it. I helped by cutting them off or pinning them to the ground then we started to hear a few gunshots, but I ignored them. Humans should be extremely low right now and were going after bigger mammals and such. Not to mention former police dogs that joined F.O.N. promised to handle them as best they could. When the streets were cleared of humans we had to look in the building before we move to the neighborhoods. I checked a restaurant with a lion and a bear then I went to a bathroom to see if humans were hiding in there, but none were in here then I looked in a mirror in here and saw that my fur was still fairly clean.

Mika's mind-I'm gonna need another shower by the end day. I can just tell.

Kelab-Mika! Any humans in there?!

Mika-No!

Kelab-Then let's go! Point is to act swiftly and get rid of as many humans as possible! We slow down then we could be done!

Mika-Coming!

I left the bathroom and the restaurant with them only to spot a scene of an adult male with what some pigeons called gang tattoos and a panther pounced on them from being and bit into their neck. Blood came gushing out while the human struggled to still try and stab the panther, but a few wolves swarmed him and each got an arm or leg to bite.

Lion-Shows over. Let's move.

(Timeskip 1 Hour)

((Y/N)'s POV)

I was watching cartoons still when I saw cars leaving by a lot and another emergency thing went on screen for a few seconds 6 times. This was getting weird, so I thought of calling my mom and dad's workplaces, but none of them were answering. Now I tried their own phones with the house phone, but it was like they hung up on purpose from how long it rang. I think they might be busy, but I was getting scared... then I saw something out of the window... A bear and tiger were going up to a house across the street and the bear broke the door down. I tried calling 911, but nobody would pick up... then I saw a fox, bird, and gorilla come up to my house, so I ran somewhere to hide in my house... The hall closet. Just when I got into my hiding spot I heard the front door opening.

???-This lockpicking stuff is getting too easy. I'm gonna start sucking.

???-Do you have an off switch?

???-Both of you... You, bird. You said there was a kid to be up for adoption and two adults here to be judged for enslavement or livestock?

Bird-I didn't have time to check everywhere this morning, so they could be at work or a friends.

???-You were supposed to check only your assigned 4 houses to keep an eye on.

Bird-I did... Then after the parents, all left for work and it being a weekend, a power nap wouldn't hurt. Where are kids gonna go?

???-Both of you shut up and search. T.V. is still on, so there's a good chance they're here or were just here.

They were looking for me. My body would not stop shaking and the sound of heavy footsteps made me start to cry, so I covered my mouth. The small light under the showed me something big in front of it which must be the gorilla. I slowly tried to hide under a spare blanket I hid in here once to just look like a pile. The door opened and I tried to stay still, but my body kept on shaking more and more.

???-Found them.

I was suddenly picked up in the blanket, so I started screaming and crying, trying to get out. A hand-held me from underneath as they walked away with me. I tried calling out for help, but I think I heard others doing the same thing over my crying. Soon I was finally put down after I heard something like a big truck then something closed. I pulled the blanket off me when I saw I was in a cage inside of a big truck. People were in other cages then I looked at where the gorilla, was going and saw many people were trying to run away, but getting caught. The door to the truck was closed and everybody was yelling or crying like me, so I just went back in my blanket to hide in the dark.

(Timeskip 10 Minutes)

After a short drive, the truck stopped and the door opened again. I could tell since I was one of the closest to the door, I will be one of the first ones out in a line to see who goes first at school. I could hear animals talking over my crying that got louder when my cage was picked up and then I heard sliding doors open and I recognize this smell from when my mommy would let me come in to look at animals...

(Y/N)'s mind-Is this the pet store?!

???-Where do you want them?

???-We have the kennels over here. Follow me.

I was too busy crying to peek out until I was taken out of the cage and blanket to be put in a new one. I saw the gorilla and a cat now with eyes like mine, but the cat got angry.

Cat-Hey, give that blanket back to him!

Gorilla-Why? Adoption is going to be starting-.

Cat-Tonight for F.O.N. agents and volunteers. I'm well aware. Let him hide for now and let him be. We'll take the blanket from him when adoption starts.

The gorilla just took the blanket and put it in here with me, but I was frozen to see animals talking. The cat went somewhere and then came back to a teddy bear to put in the big cage with me.

Cat-There you go little guy. ~

They closed and locked the cage and others were starting to come in with more people. The screaming and crying started all over again for some of the people and I didn't like it. I tried to see if my mom and dad were here, but I didn't see them. I didn't have any more tears to cry, so I just took the teddy bear and wrapped myself in my blanket to be alone in the dark, but then I heard something from the teddy bear... It was playing a song then I soon felt so tired and fell asleep.

(Mika's POV)

I did my part and just had to wait for living places to be converted, but I still feel a little weird about sleeping in one of these places rather than sleeping outside even after classes and videos about how to use this stuff. The very big houses are just going to be used for care centers for those who adopt tonight. Not really sure about what I'm going to do right now other than look at places later to see what feels right. Trucks came in and many of the machines and stuff were on dozens of them and mammals were running around everywhere.

Mika's mind-So glad I was volunteering for F.O.N. instead of this.

I sat at a cafe where a few enslaved humans were tied down inside and being yelled at about their new lives. Serve them right for their crimes and keeps a lot of things functional around the clock. Working 12 hours a day at the very least and put in prisons for housing after and even then the prisons will be cleared of any dangerous humans and given better living conditions. Later an apartment complex was opened and ready for mammals to pick, so I decided to check it out at least. I got inside and went up a few blocks to a place that was less crowded which was near the edge of this place. Each house looked like it was split into 2 with a shared driveway in the middle, so it looks like I'll be having a neighbor. At least the trees and such I will see out the window will remind me of life before this then soon a chimp came up to me holding a tablet.

???-Good evening ma'am. My name is Randle and I couldn't help, but notice you were staring at this apartment here.

Mika-Oh, I'm Mika. I was thinking about it... You see, this is all just a big change for me.

Randle-Well we are all in this together and remember that change can be scary, but a good thing. Now, what do you say we take a closer look?

He showed me inside and I saw this place was almost spotless and given all the machines I saw like one that helps bathe you if you have a partner or human to care for, but whatever I don't want I can have them take out later.

Randle-It's a two bedroom, 2 bath here with a good size living room and kitchen, a nice small dining area, and a good, but small backyard. I say it's a good place to start if you're from the wild and want to start a family or something here.

Mika-Mind if I walk around the house and think about this?

Randle-No problem. I'll be back in an hour or so.

He left, but I heard him talk to someone else outside that might be looking at the place next door. I just took a breath before I looked around to see the smaller room was empty, but the other room only had a bed, a dresser, a lamp with a button on it, and some curtains. The bathroom did have a good size bath then I tried the controls on the machine and it was analog, so it's not like it can shock you if anything happens. I moved everything back before I went to the living room to lie on the couch. The T.V. out here was nice and big with a nice picture show to watch and I got the remote that was a little tricky to use until I noticed the tablet version on the other side of the couch and it was much easier to use. Too bad, I didn't feel like watching any shows or movies some other animals watched during preparation for all this when I joined 3 months ago.

Mika-I guess this is as good as any other place... Nice and cozy.

I went outside to look for Randle and tell him I'll be moving in, but just then he came out with a golden retriever and they were both smiling.

???-I have a feeling that I'm going to love it more than that run-down apartment in that bad neighborhood.

Randle-See, look at this. Everything is working itself out now.

???-My last owner was a terrible person. Very nasty, manipulative, and selfish woman. She would hit me or others for the smallest things.

Randle-I'm sorry to hear that. I'm taking that means when she gets captured, she'll be up for livestock?

???-Not yet. She's in the hospital and is due to give birth tomorrow. After she nurses the baby and he's well enough to leave in two or three days, I'll be taking him. She doesn't know yet, of course.

Randle-Well congratulations. Hope you and your pet have a good life here.

Just then they turned to see me and Randle came over.

Randle-Ms. Mika. Have you decided?

Mika-Y-Yes. I'll be moving in now.

Randle-Excellent! I'll leave you two be.

He left to put small flags on our lawns then went to help other animals move in. Just then my new neighbor walked over to me with a smile on her face.

???-Hello darling. My name is Christa and from what I heard, you're Mika.

Mika-Nice to meet you.

Christa-I happened to notice a few steaks in my new fridge from the last owner here. I taught myself how to cook through videos and got quite good at it.

Mika-That... sounds nice.

I followed her into her new home and closed the door and she went into the kitchen and got two steaks out of the freezer from a bottom drawer we can get to easier. She put them in the fridge to help thaw before we went to her living room to lay on the couch and relax. She started to talk about her old life and how she turned a week before her owner got pregnant, so she started smashing her liquor bottles and throwing her drugs outside and taking hits for it to protect her pet still inside her terrible former owner's belly. She had it rough and got her tubes tied, so she can't have babies and decided to spoil her pet in affection when she gets them and plans to claim the meat from the mother after it's completely clean from drugs. Sounds like she already had her life planned out and even plans to help at holiday events with the baby human... Wish I had plans.

Christa-Enough about me. What about you? A majestic snow leopard must have so many stories to tell.

Mika-Oh, well... I only turned a few months ago and decided to help out in F.O.N. to track and captured stragglers today.

Christa-Ohhh, any interesting catches?

Mika-Just a few stragglers and kills here and there... Some humans did make me have to run through the garbage they knocked over.

Christa-Any children?

Mika-No, just adults. Mostly the bad ones we were shown pictures of or had a bad gang tattoo on them... I'm just trying to adjust still. The first time I drove a car modified for us, I almost crashed into a wall. It took me a month and a half to learn.

Christa-We have cars for us now?!... *Ahem* Well if you helped out in F.O.N., I heard you get first to pick with the others tonight before adoption goes public tomorrow.

Mika-I'm not sure about adoption.

Christa-Come now. F.O.N. will be making an announcement across the globe for all nations to see we are here to make the world better and punish those who want to make it worse for their own desires.

Mika-I know what F.O.N. stands for and against.

Christa-Then would it be setting a good example to leave a scared innocent human in a cage without doing anything? You're from the wild and I bet you just have cold paws. Besides, human slaves will be doing most of the work which leaves lots of time for you. Don't spend it all alone... Trust me, it's not fun.

Given her story, she might know what's she talking about. She gave me a smile while motioning me to speak out with her paw by twirling it.

Mika-I... I guess taking care of a sweet human doesn't sound too hard.

Christa-Wonderful! We'll both go tonight after I cook the steaks when they thaw for dinner.

Mika-Ok... I'm gonna go take a shower. Water from a hose doesn't clean that well.

I just went back to my new home and the panel next to the makes it easier to open, close, and lock the doors now. I got a shower going with warm water and put some shampoo on the scrub mat below me to roll around on it and scrub my fur clean and it felt so nice. Aside I felt nervous for tonight.

Mika's mind-What do I know about caring for a human?

(Timeskip To Night)

((Y/N)'s POV)

The animals took my blanket, so I couldn't hide, but let me keep my new teddy bear. A snake that worked her used his tail to rub my chin before they left to 'start the adoption event'. I just wanted to go home, but I can't open this cage with a lock on it that needs a combination. Soon I saw lots of animals from a window come into the store and some came in here to look at us. All sorts of animals were coming in and I got talked to like a baby from an iguana, a big monkey, a tiger, and a wolf, but all I did was hold my toy close and tried to curl up as much as possible. I was getting a little tired even after a nap, but could not go to sleep with all of this going on and I don't want to sleep here tonight. I want my bed and my home, not a cage with a pet bed, and a bottle of water next to a bowl of animal crackers with a piece of candy next to it. I just lied in the bed to try and sink into it since I could not pull it out to hide under. When things got a little quieter I saw a monkey walking around with tags to put on the cages then I walked closer to the bars when I thought most of the animals were gone, but then...

???-You're worried about nothing darling. These humans are scared at the very worst, but other than that they were scouted and known to be nearly harmless or complete sweethearts that wouldn't hurt a fly.

???-I just think we should get the stuff we need first before I pick.

???-Cold paws darling. You even saw how they will tag a human for you then you can get your stuff... Just look around while I get my own shopping done.

???-*Sigh*.

I went to the back of the cage again to try and look small then I saw a white tiger or something walk in front of my cage and stopped.

Besides a few others animals talking in here, it was not as loud and she leaned into the bars a bit before she put her paw on the bars a bit to get her claws in a little.

???-Hi there little fella... What's your name? ~

I curled up a bit more and held the teddy bear closer and she just frowned a little before she looked went to a bowl and came back with a piece of candy in a wrapper hanging from her lip and dropped it next to the bars. I had my last piece of candy earlier and this was (F/C), my favorite.

???-Come on. I'm not going to hurt you. ~

I just stayed here until she walked away then I went to grab the piece of candy, but then saw her looking at me and even giggled before I went to the back of the cage again. She just walked by and gave me one last look before she left. After a bit, a monkey came by and put a tag on the bars of my cage.

(Christa's POV)

Slaves were already being put to work, but are under strict watch from mostly strong predators like lions and such from F.O.N. that looked... appealing... Right now, my pet was coming first, so I had the human slaves help me by putting stuff in a cart for me and or carrying the bigger stuff. I plan to get a rocking bed for the baby tomorrow or the day after, but for now, I think plushie toys, a bed for naps with me, and some extra bowls for me. There were even new products for the new age of human pets such as mittens and straps you can strap on your human's hands and feet, so they can't grab much of anything or work things we don't want them to. Soon I saw Mika was out here and getting things with help from a human slave that I think I saw in my old neighborhood before... That's right, he would steal from so many people and even robbed my cruel owner once.

Christa-Mika!... Did you pick a pet, yet?

Mika-I did. We'll get help putting him on a cart for the walk home.

Christa-You know, I thought you said we had cars now. When do you get yours since you learned?

Mika-I didn't ask. I like to run more anyway and can jump pretty far, so it's not that high on my list.

We both continued shopping and I showed her the mittens and little ankle straps and she got one her human's size and she even pointed him out through a window. I saw he had (H/L) (H/C) hair, and baby-soft-looking (S/C) skin, and when he went for some water, we got a peek at his (E/C) eyes.

Christa-Awwww, he looks adorable! ~

Mika-I'm just about done with stuff here... I guess that means we go in and put his collar, mittens, and boots on?

Christa-That's right. I'll go find a monkey or someone that can do it easier.

((Y/N)'s POV)

I was still in a cage when a puppy ran by before they came back to me and they looked very happy to see me while a wolf walked behind them. I saw moments like this on shows and stuff, but it's normally the other way around... I didn't like it.

Puppy-Mommy! Mommy! Can we get this human?! He's super cute!

I blushed a little when they called me cute, but I hid it behind my teddy bear that played its song again.

Wolf-Sorry sweetie, but that tag says he's taken. There are still 39 other humans to pick from, but we can only look for the night.

Puppy-What?!

Wolf-I'm not in F.O.N. sweetie, and they get first pick tonight. Mommy helps with keeping track of money for the bad humans to use from now on.

Puppy-Then can I come with you tomorrow?

Wolf-Not in the morning. I'm dropping you off at your first day of school.

Puppy-School?! I thought only humans go there!

Wolf-Not anymore. Now look and mommy and daddy will try to get whoever is available tomorrow after I drop you off.

The puppy's tail stopped waging and finally left me alone, but it didn't last when a gorilla came in and messed around with the lock and opened my cage. He knelt down to look in at me and he grabbed a few things and put them on the floor of my cage.

Gorilla-Come on little guy. Your new owner wants to get you home.

I don't think he meant my home, so I didn't go to him, so he just grabbed me and I screamed. It didn't hurt, but I didn't want him to touch me and my cries made the white tiger from earlier run over here.

???-Hey, hey, hey, calm down! It's ok!

I just started tearing up and whimpering when the gorilla wouldn't let me go then the tiger or whatever she was girl lied down behind me curled up. He put my head on her belly and then started with taking my hands to put these mittens on tightly. It still didn't hurt and they felt soft and fuzzy on the inside, but I know I can't get them off now when he clicked the locks on with no real keyhole, but an oval hole.

(Y/N)-*Whimper*.

???-*Shhhhhh*. ~

That didn't make me feel better at all then got worse when the gorilla grabbed my feet to put straps on my ankles and then attached them, so I can't walk as well now... Finally, he lifted my head a bit and then put the soft collar on me.

???-There we go. All done... My name is Mika. ~

Gorilla-I'll put him in a cart for easier transportation... Also, I heard F.O.N. is getting cars out soon. If you-.

Mika-I just volunteered to help. I'm not a member.

Gorilla-Oh... Well regardless if you want to set some things in the cage before we put him in, now would be the time.

Mika-Alright... I'll be right back sweetie. ~

They left me alone and I tried to break free from this stuff, but I quickly gave up even after trying to undo the straps on the mittens with my teeth, but the lock was in the way. The gorilla soon came back and took me out of the cage and I saw a few of the cages were empty as we walked down the hall. I saw a cage on wheels with a pet bed, a fluffy blanket, some toys, a few pieces of candy, and a bigger stuffed animal about a little bigger than me was inside. I was put inside then I saw Mika walk over here with someone else with her.

They both came up to me and the dog was wagging their tail very fast.

???-Hi there. Aren't you just a cute baby. We're gonna be neighbors now. I'm Christa. What's your name? ~

I just hid my face when I felt like I was blushing when she called me a cute baby, and when I didn't answer.

Gorilla-A bird I worked with this morning when we double-checked the houses. Some homework papers had the name (Y/N) on them.

Mika-Oh, is that your name? (Y/N)?

I slowly nodded my head while still trying to hide my blush and crying. She slipped her whole front leg into the cage and rubbed my head with her soft paw, almost like she didn't have the claws I saw earlier. I still moved away from her, but she didn't stop smiling.

Mika-Let's get going. It's late and I bet you had a long and hard day. ~

They had bags in a cart and Mika walked behind my cage where a bar was then grabbed it with her mouth to start pushing me while Christa got the other cart.

Christa-Thank you, sir! Have a good night!

Gorilla-You too.

I saw other humans working in the store on the way out and wondered why they were put in changes, but they did have bracelets on their wrists and ankles while a lion was watching one of them. I stayed quiet when we got outside and it was cold, so I got under the blanket to stay warm. I looked to see Mika looking at me while she pushed me. After walking through a town we made it to a gated neighborhood then got to a corner of it to a house with 2 separate doors, but we only went in one of them and it was bumpy going up the one step to the door. They took me to a room and Christa took out some bags before she gave Mika a hug with her neck.

Christa-I'll be in my home getting what I can ready for now. Tomorrow, I'll be getting food and stuff for my pet's room if you want to join.

Mika-As long as I can get it done early in the morning. I don't want to leave him alone for too long.

Christa-Done. Say, 6:00?

Mika-I'll be over.

Christa gave Mika one last look then waved at me with her paw before she took her stuff and left.

(Mika's POV)

I followed Christa and used my paw print to lock the door behind her before I went back to my scared pet. He wanted to hide in his blanket, but also look around his empty room, but I'll unpack what I can and turn on the heater before I sleep in here with him tonight. When I was done I could still smell that he didn't shower today, but taking him out and forcing things on him this early after what was already forced on him seemed cruel... I'll give him a bath when I get back tomorrow morning. I was about to turn off the light with the switch on the wall, but then I heard him whimpering and crying a little. I did remember some birds seeing children sleep with night lights if they are scared of the dark.

Mika-You want to keep the light on honey?... Here, I'll turn the hall light on and leave the door open while we sleep together tonight. How does that sound? ~

He still didn't want to talk, but I could hear the slight change in his breathing when he calmed down. I did what I said then turned on the heater before I lied down next to his cage. I'll try my new bed later. I bet even adults are scared after they got adopted because I saw a female gorilla walk out of the store with a grown human male on the verge of crying. Now here I am with a human that was still a baby.

Mika's mind-Well... Christa told me that the first night will be the hardest for him. It'll only get easier... What am I getting myself into?
