Content

Hey folks,

I changed a thing. Y'all didn't like it. I listened. And so I've switched all the Dungeons & Lairs back to the way they were. Furthermore, you are all grandfathered in. That means as long as you remain a patron at your current level, your current benefits will continue to work the way they are forever.

It quickly became apparent that it isn't just the content you all enjoy but the freedom to get whatever you need when you need it. Lesson learned!

That said, I still have to address the major issue here, which is piracy and inflation.

Tier Changes (Effective June 1st, 2023)

Starting June 1st, the current tiers will no longer be available for new patrons. However, you will be able to keep your current tier at its current price.

In their place, I'm adding new tiers that are more or less identical to the current ones, offering the same level of freedom. However, all of the tiers will get a slight bump in price.

Only the newly returned trinket tier will have the last four months available to it. All others will have total access to all adventures on this site.

Since we have another 11 days left in the month (as of this writing), feel free to make suggestions where possible.

Below are the new prices. Remember, these price changes only affect new patrons.

Trinket (June 2023+)

Trinket's price will continue to be $1

Trinket is the only tier that won't have access to the full back catalog.

Copper (June 2023+)

Copper's price will increase from $3 to $4.

Copper will continue to have access to all Dungeons & Lairs adventures, receive four new ones every month, and have Discord and Voting Privileges.

Silver (June 2023+)

Silver's price will increase from $7 to $9

In addition to copper's benefits, silver will continue to receive a monthly Buckler. Older bucklers will remain walled, as has always been the way (I'm just too lazy to change it most months, haha).

Electrum (June 2023+)

Electrum will end in June

The cost to create FoundryVTT packs is very expensive, and if there's an issue with their system—as we saw in version 10—it creates a huge mess for us and costs us countless hours in labor. As such, Electrum will be ending and will effectively merge with Gold.

Note—if you are currently an Electrum member, you will be grandfathered in, meaning you get to keep being an Electrum member.

Gold (June 2023+)

Gold's price will increase from $25 to $30

Gold will have all the benefits of Silver and Copper but also get access to monthly PDF books (likely just limit it to Dungeons & Lairs and Just Passing Through), and also get the past 6 month's worth of Bucklers. Gold will also continue to have access to 3 months' worth of FoundryVTT Asset packs.

Platinum (June 2023+)

Platinum's price will continue to be $50

Platinum will continue to have access to all content as well as three months' worth of PDF books, 12 months' worth of Bucklers, and 6 months' worth of FoundryVTT Asset Packs.

Diamond (June 2023+)

Diamond is a new tier starting at $100

The newest tier, Diamond, will have 100% access to everything, old, new, and everything in between.

I'm sad about the loss of Electrum. Being able to pay $15 for at least 4 whole Foundry modules has always been an incredible value. Maybe it was too incredible of a value?

Anonymous

Does that mean Electrum users jump up to $25/month?

Are you going to keep releasing your new books to the Gold level? Will grandfathered Gold still have permanent access to all the D&L foundry archive?

dmdave

Yes on the first part, no on the second. Foundry costs us a lot to make a single pack so we have to be mindful of that. Otherwise it’s not viable

Awesome...

Mark Adams

Phew. The email freaked me out thinking my cost was going to double here.

I love your stuff but haven't needed anything above copper since 2018. But reading my amount paid to 4$ to match the revamped tier is cool right?

David Geary

I know I'm small potatoes.

Is there any way for low-level patrons (like me) to get (modest) discounts on Roll20 versions of Dungeons & Lairs? I've been a patron for a few years now (I think since early pandemic?), and the back access stuff doesn't make a huge difference to me since I save things as they come out (in subfolders by terrain because I'm anal like that), and I rarely get more than a month or so behind. I love *having* everything so I can think about what best fits a particular group at a particular point in time... but then the things I actually run, I end up buying on Roll20 to have the pre-made maps. I'm fine paying for both the Patreon and the VTT, only seems fair/you have to make a living, but I wish there was a small discount for getting both.

Big picture, you were right to change away from a model where people could pay like $3 for your entire back catalogue and then bounce. I appreciate that you're doing what you think is right to provide value to your Patreon supporters while also trying to stay afloat financially, and listening to feedback.

Understand the issue you are trying to deal with.. I can't speak for everyone, but pretty sure I can NEED access to all the catalog all the time.... is there a way to limit number of downloads a month and maybe scale it? Say copper can grab 10 a month for 6 months or something like that and then at some point remove the limit or increase it?

I am really confused by this post. The grandfathered tiers, the ones we are in now (which is not currently called what it was called when I upgraded to this tier, I think it was something like Priest d10 or whatever), are these tiers going to have content time-out (aging out older content)? Like if I'm on Gold now, let's call it "Gold Classic" for lack of a different term, will Gold Classic have expiring content, ever? Will "Gold Classic" get all of the digital content being produced, or will some content be held back for Platinum and Diamond only?

dmdave

Gold Classic will get everything it does now. In fact, it's a pain to switch it off, so I'll just leave it as it is. In other words, you pay the same price, get the same stuff. But if you quit... you'll have to pay the new price if you return. Does that make sense?

David Geary

I've been a low level patron for a longish time-I just increased my contribution about to match the "New" tier while I think keeping my grandfathered status? Is that cool? I don't want to underpay.

virtuadept

I think it makes sense, it's just not clear yet to me whether or not I would need to upgrade to get all content (such as if there will be content exclusive to Platinum or Diamond level), or if Gold Classic will keep getting all the content including all the new Foundry VTT stuff. I mainly upgraded to this level from Copper because it is / was the most economical way to get access to all the foundry VTT (and the funny thing is, I'm still using Roll20... go figure. I think I finally figured out how to use Foundry, I just need to convince my players to switch).

Dave, this sounds like you have hit a perfect solution Thank you for doing the extra work that this must have needed. Amazing thank you

Ltbadger

I would press on this issue as the very last post I just read [in my inbox sunday] might mean you have unwittingly swapped yourself to a new tier. Maybe not as they dont go live until June 1st?
