Good evening! 🌅

I'm thrilled to finally announce the release of the latest texture pack, Zelda: Skyward Sword 4K Switch Edition!

This is a complete remake of the original Wii version's texture pack, remade from the ground up with over 550 brand new 4K textures, tailored specifically for the Switch version, which comes with many improvements over previous versions! For those who aren't already familiar with the changes between the Wii and Switch versions, here are some key features of the Switch version over the original Wii version;

Full 60 FPS support

The switch version runs at 60 fps natively, without having to rely on any cheats or hacks to do so. It's buttery smooth, and it looks amazing.

Vastly improved controls

The Wii version, whilst playable using a regular controller in Dolphin, was designed with the wii remote and nunchuck in mind, and it never worked very well when translated over to regular controllers. The switch version has completely reworked controls which work very well with regular controls, and is a huge improvement in this regard in particular.

Many Q.O.L improvements

Auto-saving, faster load times, manual camera control, skipable cutscenes, faster textboxes, no repeated item notifications, cleaner HUD and remote fast travel are all neat quality of life improvements in the Switch version.

This texture pack is made to work on the Switch version only, since it uses a different texture format than the Wii version. The Wii version will no longer continue receiving updates, as focus will be shifting over entirely to the Switch version of the texture pack moving forward!

Texture Pack Features

> 550+ completely new 4K textures, remade for the Switch version in much higher quality than previous versions. They have also been tailored to match the original art style much better than in the prior version.

> Fully customisable post processing effects and shader presets through ReShade, which comes pre-configured with the bundled Ryujinx Emulator.

> A pre-configured Ryujinx Switch Emulator for Windows comes bundled with the texture pack. It uses the Vulkan Graphics API as the default backend, and supports most controllers natively. You do not need to use DS4Windows or BetterJoy!

> The texture pack will work on all platforms Ryujinx supports. For now that includes Windows, Linux and macOS.

> As always, installation is quick and easy. You will however need to obtain and use your own activation key for Skyward Sword, as well as a game rom for Skyward Sword HD, which cannot be included with the emulator for legal reasons!

Also, I've made a new trailer to showcase what the game can look like with this texture pack and shaders applied. Check it out!

Enjoy!

This texture pack is available to all Patrons right now, with a public release 1 month from when this post was first published!

(Only available for the Ryujinx Emulator, the texture pack does not work on real Switch consoles).

I am only able to make things like this thanks to your support, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me do what I love!

Hello henrikomagnificent, I love that you are starting to make texture packs in Switch emulators, I hope it can also be included in Yuzu. Greetings. PS: Do you know if there is any way to remove that Depth of Field effect in this game.

Fernando766

Hello Henriko, do you know the route where to put the textures manually? Please

henrikomagnifico

Yuzu support will probably be added whenever Yuzu adds support for HD texture packs like Ryujinx has! And sadly DoF cannot be disabled in this version currently, although I believe it's only a matter of time until someone creates a cheat code to disable it completely.

Hi Fernando! You will need to use the latest build of Ryujinx Avalonia, or else texture packs won't load properly. But provided you're using that, you can simply right click the game in the games list in Ryujinx and then click "Open Mods Directory" and that's where you want to copy the "textures" folder from the texture pack folder > portable > mods > contents > 01002da013484000 directory.

Hello Henriko, to tell you that I was already able to try the textures, and they are super cool, as always your finesse to the details in your HD packages, are a delight.

Hi Henriko - thank you so much for updating this texture pack so it's compatible with the switch version of Skyward Sword (the improved framerate and controls will be a game-changer). I just wanted to double-check whether ReShade is supposed to be working in the initial release of the switch version. When I start up the game on the custom installation of Ryujinx you've included in the pack, the textures load fine (the title screen shows the texture pack is loaded), but there's no indication ReShade has loaded (and pressing '8' doesn't bring up the ReShade menu, like you'd expect). Apologies if I've missed something obvious - just wanted to double-check.

Hello! I have done some testing and realized that Reshade Vulkan does not actually include any installation files portably like the OpenGL version does. This means that you must also install the Reshade Vulkan version manually for it to work! I am uploading a small patch to the pack right now with an included Reshade installer and instructions on how to install it, called "1.1.0b". It should be available in a few minutes. I'm sorry for this inconvenience, and thanks for alerting me of this issue!

Can I use this with Yuzu or does it have to be Ryujinx?

ursadrake

I think for the time being it's Ryujinx only because Yuzu doesn't yet support texture injection modding (or at least not in the way Henriko does it) - fingers crossed it will work with Yuzu one day!

whenever i try loading up the game the emulator freezes (not responding) but the audio continues. Any Ideas?
