Update: The download link has now been fixed and should now direct to the correct version!

Good evening! 🌚

Today marks the release of 1.7.0, the next major update to the Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D 4K texture pack! This update is, once again, pretty large and and includes over 80 new 4K textures covering several areas, with a primary focus on Clock Town as well as Snowhead and The Great Bay. It also includes new character textures, user-interface upgrades and more! And another major update- it now comes bundled with the latest version of Canary, which fixes MANY previous issues, such as stuttering and the infamous "texture swapping" glitch. Oh- and even more japanese translated textures for japanese speaking players! And that's just the top of the iceberg. Here's what's new:

80+ New Textures!

This update includes over 80 new 4K textures, which are completely remade from scratch. This includes both environment textures such as the ground, walls, stone tiles and bricks, wooden panels etc. It also includes many new interior textures, completely overhauling several locations, such as Zora Hall. There are also new foliage textures, which you'll immediately notice as part of the intro cutscene, too. And at last, over a dosen character portraits have been re-created from scratch in 4K, and now looks leagues better than before! There are tons of miscellaneous textures as well that have been completely remade, such as several types of doors, the mountain smithy, the spring version of Snowhead's various environments, save statues, parts of Ikana Canyon and many more. Like previous updates, it helps it all comes together really nicely and makes the whole pack feel a lot more polished and complete. The details all add up!

Improved Japanese translation textures thanks to work by Tomoki Sato ("LINK")

Tomoki Sato (a user who also goes by the name "LINK") has generously been helping with translating most of the UI textures of this texture pack, as well as the OOT3D 4K texture pack, over to Japanese! Another batch covering some of the textures has been added in this update, with more getting included in future releases. Please follow them on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/LINK_genkaiya

Updated the emulator and ReShade (Bigger than it seems!)

The emulator has finally been updated to the latest of version Canary in this version of the pack, which includes the completely new custom texture system-rewrite implemented by @GPUCode a short while ago! This fixes many notorious bugs, such as the stuttering that would occur whenever new textures were loaded in and the infamous and somewhat terrifying "texture swapping" bug which commonly occured for many users. This reallly adds a lot to the experience and makes the game much more enjoyable from start to finish. ReShade has also been updated to version 5.8, which also comes with several stability and feature improvements. More notably this update fixes the flickering of the depth buffer present in previous versions, making effects such as ambient occlusion much more usable. It also improves on performance a fair bit compared to previous versions!

Updated Shader presets (Henriko Ultra 7.0)

The default shader presets that come with the pack have been updated and improved in this version! Henriko Ultra 7.0 has been more or less re-created from scratch and hosts various improvements, both in terms of sharpness and colors but also in terms of performance- with this shader performing nearly twice as fast as the previous version! It also adds a new feature called "AMD FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening", which is a mouthful, but really just means vastly improved sharpening with increased perceived detail at a very low cost in terms of performance. It's crazy good and looks fantastic, and is enabled by default from now on!

And many bugs fixes, optimizations and minor changes...

Minor issues from the previous version has been fixed. Performance has also been marginally improved due to the previously described optimizations. This should lead to a more polished and overall enjoyable experience for everyone using the texture pack.

That's mostly it for this update. Enjoy!

The update is available to all you Patrons here, with a public release in two weeks from when this post was published!

There is also a 4K version available, if your computer can handle it! The 4K version includes higher quality textures than the 1080p version, and will work on all displays- even those that don't display in 4K resolution. It will still look better than the 1080p version, no matter the display!

Please feel free to try it out!

(Only playable in emulators, the texture pack does not work on real 3DS consoles).

Selecting your game region (if you're using the PAL/European or Japanese version of the game);

All you need to do now, if you're using the European version of Majora's Mask 3D, click the "Run this if you're using the PAL (European) version of the game.bat" file inside the texture pack folder. Done! It'll now work great with your version of the game. Easy, right?

How to enable MXAO (ambient occlusion) & DoF (Depth of Field):

This means you can now experience glorious self shadowing around objects, which looks really great with MM 3D's fantasy art style. Try it out by doing the following:

* Set your game view to "Single" in the emulator.

* Enter fullscreen in emulator.

* Press the "8" key on your keyboard, this will bring up the ReShade UI.

* Check the "MXAO" box in the list of effects, if it's not already checked. The same can be done with the "ADOF" effect, if you want depth of field (might have some issues with masking around UI elements and whatnot, but feel free to give it a try!)

* Go to the "Add-ons" tab in ReShade and check the box next to the depth buffer in the list with the highest value (it should be a very high number while all others are 0, if there's only one in the list, check that one!). This number will change constantly, but don't worry, it's supposed to do that!

* You're done. Have fun!

You can find more information about my HD texture pack here.

Watch the trailer if you haven't already!

Old version! Get the latest version instead, since this version is no longer supported.

I am only able to make things like this thanks to your support, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me do what I love!

Possible stupid question but is it somehow possible to merge OoT and MM into one folder instead of needing 2 separate ones on the desktop? Not that it's a big deal, just curious.

henrikomagnifico

It's definitely possible, although it's a bit finnicky and might have some unintended consequences (none of them should be severe, though). Simply copy the "load" folder over from one of the texture pack folders "user" folders into the other one's and that *should* in theory work. However some effects in ReShade, as well as some game specific settings may not be applied by default. So you will need to check your Citra settings before and after to make sure that everything is set the way it's supposed to when you play the games.

can i add the re orchestrated soundtrack add on to steam deck?

henrikomagnifico

Hi Joshua, yes it's possible! Simply follow the same instructions as for installing the textures, but place the files inside the "mods" folder instead of "textures" and that should do the trick.

Is it possible to have 60fps?

I know this is probably a stupid question, but do the shaders automatically run on the texture pack, or do you need to manually set it? Also how do you get the UI for OOT and MM that only requires one screen (As seen in the trailers)?

henrikomagnifico

Hi Raffy! That's not at all a stupid question. Shaders do indeed get applied automatically in-game when the game starts up, You can configure these shaders through the ReShade menu by pressing the "8" key on your keyboard (there's a large list of shaders to choose from, and two presets come bundled with the pack which you can try out as well). Regarding the UI displaying on the top screen, for MM3D there's a mod called Project Restoration which I highly recommend that does exactly this, which you can download here; https://restoration.zora.re/hd-hud The instructions are quite straight forward, however if you encounter any issues with installing it feel free to send me a DM or ask on Discord any time. For OoT it's a bit more complicated, since there is no mod which does this automatically. The only way currently is to use the 4K UI Utility, which can be downloaded from the same link as the texture pack in the same post at the bottom. It has it's own set of instructions and caveats you may need to work around (that configuration is still in beta and needs work). Cheers, Henriko

I legit have told my friends about you and how easy you've made enjoying these games either again or brand new... stuff that doesn't even have to do with textures is amazing! The reorchestrated soundtrack SLAPS!! Thank you for bringing more zelda and other games into my life.

Is there any way you can release the 3DS texture pack mods using a newer build of Citra? Vulkan has WAY less stutter. Thanks and keep up the fantastic work!

henrikomagnifico

I'm currently working on a port to Vulkan, however there are still some important features which aren't yet ported over from OpenGL to Vulkan in Citra (such as texture filters). You can probably expect the next update to include Vulkan support, though!
