Good morning! 🌚

Today marks the release of 1.5.0 for the Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D 4K texture pack! This update is the largest update ever to the texture pack, and includes over 300 new 4K textures covering several areas, with a primary focus on Clock Town and the surrounding areas, character textures, user-interface upgrades and more! Here's what's new:

300+ New Textures!

This update includes over 300 new 4K textures, many of which are completely remade from scratch. This includes both environment textures such as the ground, walls, iron bars, window panes, wooden panels etc, new foliage textures, new textures for the title screen and the quest tracker, as well as remade textures for Link and his various accessories. Areas that have been overhauled includes all sections of Clock Town (including the laundry pool and  the Clock Tower itself), Termina Field, the Swamp, Snowhead, the path up to Ikana Canyon and more. There are tons of miscellaneous textures as well that have been completely remade, such as Majora's Mask itself, the Moon, new title screen + custom renders, the loading screen icon, Fairy's Fountain in Clock Town, overhauled Deku Palace and the majority of the beginning section of the game. Like last update and the one before it, it helps it all comes together really nicely and makes the whole pack feel a lot more polished and complete. The details all add up!

More songs from the Re-Orchestrated Project!

Following the trend set by the last two updates, 5 more new re-orchestrated songs are now included! More songs are coming soon in future updates, so stay tuned! And of course, if you just want to listen to the Re-Orchestrated soundtrack you can always find it on the most popular streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music etc.

And many bugs fixes, optimizations and minor changes...

Minor issues from the previous version has been fixed, such as ReShade not loading the correct profile on startup by default. Performance has also been marginally improved due to some optimizations that have been made as well. This should lead to a more polished and overall enjoyable experience for everyone using the texture pack.

That's mostly it for this update. Enjoy!

The update is available to all you Patrons here, with a public release in two weeks from when this post was published!

There is also a 4K version available, if your computer can handle it. It's a large file, over 10GB so beware of that before you download it!

Please feel free to try it out!

(Only available for the Citra 3DS emulator, the texture pack does not work on real 3DS consoles).

Selecting your game region (if you're using the PAL/European or Japanese version of the game);

All you need to do now, if you're using the European version of Majora's Mask 3D, click the "Run this if you're using the PAL (European) version of the game.bat" file inside the texture pack folder. Done! It'll now work great with your version of the game. Easy, right?

How to enable MXAO (ambient occlusion) & DoF (Depth of Field):

This means you can now experience glorious self shadowing around objects, which looks really great with MM 3D's fantasy art style. Try it out by doing the following:

* Set your game view to "Single" in Citra.

* Enter fullscreen in Citra.

* Press the "HOME" button on your keyboard, this will bring up the ReShade UI.

* Check the "MXAO" box in the list of effects.

* Go to the "OpenGL" tab in ReShade and check the box next to the depth buffer in the list with the highest value (it should be a very high number while all others are 0). This number will change constantly, but don't worry it's supposed to do that!

* You're done. Have fun!

I am only able to make things like this thanks to your support, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me do what I love!

Hey man! Great job with the texture pack and all! I dont know if its too late too react, but i habe one question. Do you maybe now why the screen is flickering? Its with Majora's mask and Ocarina Of Time.

henrikomagnifico

Hi Vincent! This sounds like it could be an issue caused by ReShade. If you press "F12" on your keyboard whilst in-game, does the flickering stop?

Hello Henriko, I tried your texture packs and they are amazing, good work. Is there any possibility for a future 720p version for Steam Deck users? Is it even compatible? I couldn’t get the 1080p version to work on mine.

henrikomagnifico

Hi Alberto! There is no 720p version as of yet, however the 1080p version should work fine on the SteamDeck. Have you extracted the contents of the "load" folder from the texture pack's "user" folder into the Citra folder's "load" folder on your SteamDeck? And have you enabled "Load Custom Textures" in the Citra Graphics Settings? Also make sure that the custom texture folder is correctly named, if you're using the European (PAL) version (from ending in '500' to ending in '600'). If you're using the NTSC version, there is no need to rename the folder.

I got it to work on steam deck following your steps but the textures are being applied incorrectly on almost all the models. Is there any way to fix this?

Nevermind, disabling texture filter solved the issue. Yay!

Whats the general benchmarks for pc specs for 4k vs 1080p?

Hello Henriko, I want to know can I use the 4K texture pack on 1070 TI?

Hi! First of: Thank you so much for this update <3 Second: I have a question. Even though the patch is bigger than the 1.3 one and also an improvement itself.. Why does it have way less folders than the previous ones? 1.3 had about 9k folders I think and 1.5 has about 6k if I remember correctly. I'm one of these guys who check file by file to choose which one they prefer over the newer ones :x Would be so happy if you could explain to me how it works!

henrikomagnifico

Hi and thank you for your kind words, they really mean a lot! I presume by folders you mean texture files? If so then that is because many tiny upscaled textures have been entirely removed since they looked poor in many instances and didn't really contribute much to the overall quality of the pack. Instead all textures will be remade from scratch, making sure each one gets the care it needs. The file count is smaller, but the file sizes are naturally larger since more remade high resolution textures are included than before! I hope this answers your question well enough :D

Thank you for the fast and very informative response! I have one very important question left: Which of these texture files fixes the blue rupee? I went through it multiple times and I'm not sure which one it is :X I swear once 1.6 releases I'll sub your blue rupee tier!

I love this texture pack, but Citra eats my RAM for breakfast. Each time I zone, ram usage gets higher and higher. I have 16G of ram and i can barely make it out of clocktown before i have to force stop. Any ideas? I know its a Citra issue, but none of the solutions I've found seem to work.

As in, load all the textures before the game starts? No, I tried that once but CITRA ended up crashing because my ram filled before it was done. I have 16GB total I was watching task manager at the time. I tried paging, but it didn't work. I end up restarting my PC when this happens so the memory is purged. The problem happens more in Clock Town as it has the most textures in a condensed area with all the NPCs and buildings I would assume. Usually what I end up doing is saving outside Clock Town and reloading Citra. Empties my RAM and allows me to play longer per session unless I visit too many areas in that session. I can do Termina field and the entirety of Swamp and Mountain areas plus dungeons before I have to restart. What I need to find out, is if there is an option to unload textures if they are not needed. I'd rather deal with a second or two delay on zone load times than monitor my ram and reload. I realize this is a Citra issue with how it loads and stores the textures, but I figured I'd ask if you had ran into this before, or know something I don't. For the record I will reiterate I LOVE this texture pack. Brings so much life to this game (it's my 2nd favorite LoZ game after LttP.)

I am trying to map the "select item screen" on my xbox controller. But I do not have any way of doing that. Is there a bug or am I missing something? I have every option in the config for controls binded to something but nothing works.

hey man great job! but I have a problem: when I restart the game my screen freezes at the last game screen and I need to close and open citra for it to work, do you have a solution for this? Thanks a lot and have a nice day!

henrikomagnifico

Hi Tomthée! This is likely a bug with Reshade in Citra. Try re-sizing the window screen and it should fix itself!
