If you like dialogue heavy shows with interesting direction, you need to check out the Monogatari series. Interesting enough I didn't think this show was going to go full Whodunnit Gentlemen Detective. What's interesting is they are purposefully breaking on the old cardinal rules of gentlemen detective fiction, in not having supernatural elements, the reason being if the killer has supernatural powers it might break the common sense and rules of causality so the audience might not be able to figure it out. They actually bring this up and play with it in Hyouka, with the PR girl in the Film Arc and how adding a Slasher Villain that can ignore walls and locks would break the locked room mystery in the film. (Hyouka also breaks one of the rules or commandments of classic mysteries by having their mysteries as low stakes, since one of the rules is "There must always be a corpses.") Just thought it was an interesting thing to point out.

Don't know if you caught it but the Mother use to not be a vampire, so there is some motive if one of the sons saw her a more of a human.

yeah i caught that. in this first case, they're really trying to ground and set rules for this vampire lore. hope they stick to that and the reveal isn't something like, "i used x superpower that was not stated earlier"

Funfact: Both the novel and Manga starts with this episode and the first episode is either an anime original or a flashback scene that i havent seen yet.
