This series is mostly fictional, with some characters and events that are loosely based on Japan's feudal history.

TheMonarch

my second favorite shounen is baaack!

statixFEAR

More or less. Also, "rurouni" is just a title that means wanderer. "Hitokiri" is slasher/killer/slayer. Back in the day, I watched the original with a dub so I was so used to the translations of those words

statixFEAR

Man... I've seen the original series so many times in the past, watched all the OVAs, and read the manga. I am so happy this is getting a remake. I am curious how they're gonna manage to squeeze in the story in 2 cours, though, considering the old series ran almost 100 episodes before it ended. Also, the animation looks clean af and the OP and ED both slap so hard. I was worried, initially, that this was just gonna be cashing in on the nostalgia... but the first episode is pretty good so far.

I watched this when it aired in the US in english dub and it was probably my first anime. It was step for step with the original first ep. also Hitokiri roughtly translated to manslayer

Eiichiro Oda (One Piece) and Hiroyuki Takei (Shaman King) worked on this series when they were still assistants in the 90s

TheMonarch

they are not adapting the entire series in these 24 episodes, they will only be adapting the first arc ca 56 chapters

Richie Roberts

Considering who the assistant on this series where and what they went on to do I think it's safe to call this series a legend.

statixFEAR

Good to know. At least they have the foundation, already. The first 2 cours will definitely be used to measure interest in this series... so, if the show turns out to be more successful than what they expected, maybe we'd get a chance at future seasons to adapt the rest of the story as well

So, on account of the untranslated words: Hitokiri Battousai - Literally "Sword-drawing Manslayer" Shessha - This one isn't highlighted anywhere, but it is one way of refering to oneself (such as boku, ore, watashi) that is very humble. Translated into english, Kenshin isn't refering to himself as "I" but "this one". Just an interesting tidbit on the character. Gozaru - This is similar to how people normaly end their sentences in "desu", but its more archaic and oftentimes associated with samurai. This is translated into english as these extra addons at the end of his sentences, ie "that it is".

hope ya have fun with the series, personally don't think I can ever stomach watching it knowing Nobuhiro wrote the story and the type of person he is/was.

I fucking knew it as soon as I heard her voice it's the GOAT takahasi Rie (emilia, megumin, tomo, ai... etc)

Skebaba

Yeah it basically means "this clumsy one" because samurai are (in theory) meant to live in honorable poverty or w/e it's called, so it's intentionally implying self-deprecation by the way it's worded

Skebaba

I'm contractually obligated to watch Apothecary Diaries because the MC is voiced by Y.Aoi

If the whole Hogwarts Legacy and J.K. Rowling situation has taught me anything, it's to learn to separate the individual from the art. And besides, in this day and age, I've grown tired of the whole cancel culture thing... in one way or another, something we currently use or enjoy has had some dark or nefarious origin... it just so happened that this individual, in particular, got caught. The guy's definitely a scumbag, but his life and actions won't affect my views of the work he's managed to already put out there... especially one as legendary as Rurouni Kenshin.

I watched the live action movie series of this show and it was really good. Probably the best live action adaptation I've watched. Just hoping the anime will also be as interesting.
