Hyouka is quite a funny show for me as it doesn't really hit as a slice of life show like K-On or Dragon Maid and doesn't really do the drama and romance as well as Hibike Euphonium and Violet Evergarden for me. However, I still thoroughly enjoyed the series (though not as much as other shows) due to the amount of growth we see in our characters, as well as their interactions with each other. The larger arcs of mysteries are also really fun and engaging. As with any KyoAni series, the production is so high quality that it always blows me off my feet. Would absolutely love to see KyoAni adapt the rest of the volumes to satisfy us after that, while reasonable and sensible, unsatisfactory ending.

Episode 22: You really SHOULD watch the OVA its important, it shows how Oreki got out of his depression from the Film Arc into the Festival Arc. Trust me. Anyway basically in this episode Chitanda I think was wanting to Break Oreki in to what his life will be life if he marries into her Family, and also demonstrate as a power move that she trusts him. (Remember she asked for him specifically when the Old Men were arguing and trusts him to give the message, basically letting everyone know he is special and trusted to her.) Notice throughout the first part Chi was more calm and chill where Oreki wondered if that was really Chitanda, basically like the New Year Episode its meant to show how Oreki is a fish out of water in Chitanda's world but she is trying to get him to be part of it. Also you were so busy tripping over whether he was going to mess up in the parade (Not sure why tbh.) I don't know if you caught that his energy conservation motto is now dead. (In the future novels he NEVER uses it again.) And the subs translated "I have to know" but it should have been "I'm curious" basically he like the Helicopter episode said Chi's motto but this time it was like a Damn burst rather than reluctantly. Oreki was naturally solving the Mystery because he enjoyed it but notice he tried to put on the brakes when Irisu brought it up, basically it reminded him of being used, not only a reference to the Film Arc, but later explained in his backstory in the Novels, Irisu points out she had a job to do to get the Film Done and she has no reason to lie and gas him up now. Also Chitanda's pride in her hometown lets say it loops back to something she said in the OVA which you CANNOT skip, basically even if something isn't "objectively" special to her. (Her little town is a dead end that is going to die out like we see in Skip and Loafer.) It matters to her. I know your frustrated about the fake out confession, but the kid literally went from denying he's in Love to his Damn bursting and wanting to see her under the Sakura Trees, the fact he's thinking of doing that is honestly huge progress. He simply isn't ready to take the next step, most 15 year old wouldn't be ready to take that step. And remember if he proposes to her, his life will be hectic and complicated because he'd be marrying into her family which is a lot to ask a young man. These Four Novels adapted are the First year, currently we are on the Second Year, at the end of the anime adapted arcs Oreki is ready to step into his Rose Colored Life "Spring is Arrived" according to Chitanda, but now in the Second Year he is working on shedding all his bad habits and more actively becoming his best self and expressing some of his regrets over his past apathetic behavior. For the record the other characters own arcs continues, like Mayaka with her art passion, Satoshi with Mayaka, Chi has an existential crisis, we find out Why Mayaka had a beef with Oreki since middle school, and we find out why Oreki took his energy conservation motto in the first place, we also since they are second years....well I'll let you guess what might happen to the Club then. Also Chi understood what Oreki wanted to say, when he said "its chilly" Chi was like "No It spring" she's waiting for him. One last thing before I bid goodbye. Remember the OP, well before the Drop in the Song, it shows Oreki looking into the rivers reflection (Or rather being a part of it) under the Sakura Tree it shows the Umbrella open that is when the drop in the song hits and after that Oreki is shown in the OP actively trying to break out of the Reflection World, symbolizing he no longer wants to passively let life pass him by, and of course Chitanda pulls him out, (But the first person to notice and direct Chi's attention even in the OP is Satoshi.) A little symbolism there.

Don't hold your breathe about another season, they haven't done a new season of Haruhi which is also huge, likely because Hyouka was one of the films made under Kadokawa before Kyoani split from them, and working on more Hyouka might involve them working under Kadokawa which Kyoani has not done ever since splitting. Also the OVA is canon and the Author worked on it and he recently put it in a short story in written form. As for what I think of the series as a whole. 10/10 Kyoani's magnum opus one of my favorites of all time, my holy trinity of "subtext dialogue heavy shows" alongside Spice and Wolf and Monogatari.

I really loved how subtle this ending is aside from that cop out semi confession i really enjoy it. Specially because Chitanda wanted to show Oreki her goals and her future were she was going to be, that in itself is a confession in my books.

Just did some research and this is novel adaptation, first 5 books+short stories have turned into this season(prob 4 books), 5th book came out 3 years after and 6th book should be coming soon
