They had to cut a lot out of the light novel to make everything fit. Once the season finishes I'd highly recommend reading it. To fit everything into 20 minutes, the anime basically distilled each conversation into a couple of cliff notes and even then they missed so much. For example, they completely cut out any discussion of politics, removed a long conversation between Euphy and the blacksmith and rewrote Lumi's lines in such a weird way. She wants to prevent Euphy from becoming a spirit contractor, so why did she start by talking about how becoming one could solve all of Euphy's problems?

I know this won't be read this late. But the whole ignoring your friends and taking on all the problems yourself is usually a villain backstory.
