Hes not after actual easy life but less troublesome than previous one, being perceived as considerably strong is a must he just wish to avoid to get the "strongest" title and end up secluded, too bad hes not as cunning as he wishes do be and not good at dealing with people as aimed to be and yes hes not directly related by blood with his father but just his father knows it.

I think the father's reaction to Gly demanding the duel is a matter of, if Seika can't prove that he can best Gly in a duel, then Seika has no business going to the mage school. Seika defending himself and winning in this fight means proving that the father is making the right choice of child to send off to school. If Gly could win, then it's proving Seika doesn't have what it takes to be sent. It seems cold from the outside, but since tradition states only one child goes to the school, the father has to be cold and analytical about deciding which of his kids best represents his family at the magic school.

This show isn't really an isekai in a traditional sense, but it does derive a lot of similarities to World's Finest Assassin. Also, the "exorcist" theme of the series is called Onmyodo. It basically deals with a lot of different aspects from natural science, divination, astronomy, magic, and mythology. It's been a while since I've seen a series, that had exorcist elements, actually explain the science behind what they are capable of doing.

My understanding is that in his last life he learned that there is a difference between being the strongest and being the most powerful. Even the strongest being can be destroyed by a politician that turns a country against him. So in this life, he wants to be cunning enough to be the most powerful in the world, not the strongest. His big thing about not being the strongest is simply that he wants to avoid envy by using the hero as a shield.
