Issei's fear of finding out what girls really think of him is something he developed after what happened with the fallen angel Raynare in season 1. He got traumatized by it thinking that if he expresses his true feelings they might just do what Raynare did and reject him saying they were pretending to like him. Thats why every time the girls got too close to him or when he dreamt about them throughout the season he would always end up thinking of Raynare and pushing the girls away so he doesnt risk feeling hated or rejected again.

While these last 3 Episodes are non canon, we still saw on multiple occasions during the seaons that Issei always remembered what happened with Reynare and that it affected him. Because Raynare was the First Girl that showed interest in him, and then it was all just fake the whole time and ended with him dying. But like he said, he isn't doubting Rias, Akeno and the others, but he is scared. I think that is actually good writing, because in pretty much every other Anime this whole thing with Raynare would just be forgotten after it was over.
