Hi everyone,

the first part of CD Audio is now implemented and available in sourcecode and testbuilds.

CD XA is compressed audio, directly embedded into the data track of the CD. Quality wise it may be slightly worse then Direct Audio, which is uncompressed and playable in a CD player, but it has way more usecases.

Games use CD XA for background audio, for voice acting and FMVs, while Direct Audio can more or less only be used for background music.

There are still some bugs left as you may see: some games don't start the audio track or start the wrong one or loop them. Those things are mainly related to bugs in the CD subsystem and need to be fixed.

As I often get questions about where to download the latest cores and for troubleshooting, I will lead you to the Q/A page that "Vampier" from the MiSTer discord has created:

https://vampier.net/PSX/

It has all required information prepared and it would be great if you can take a look if you have any trouble.

You can also join the psx-core-testing channel in the MiSTer Discord:

https://discord.com/invite/misterfpga

There are plenty of friendly and experienced users, always helping if someone has a problem setting the core up.

Please understand that I do my best, but I cannot always answer all questions myself, otherwise I don't have time for development anymore.

Have fun!

Tried out Street Fighter EX, Sometimes it freezes before it hits the menu but when you get passed that, a lot of the gameplay is in tact! It seems like when particle effects get involved the fps drops. Not complaining here, but this is a vast improvement the last time I tried the nighly builds! I can actually interact with it!
