I've been spending some big chunks of time scanning my sketchbooks, in order to bring you some of my work process and images you otherwise would never see. Here we have some early redesigns for the characters from Slamhounds. Most of you know that Dash was changed from an anthropomorphic rabbit alien to an aquatic-based alien, but these close-ups show some of the mementos she's been left with after serving as Vengus Marr's puppet bounty hunter: chiefly, some nasty burn-scarring around her right eye, which she keeps covered with her hair. The eye itself is actually  artificial--hence  the unmatched pupil--and has multiple capacities her natural eye lacks, such as infrared and ultraviolet vision, telescopic sight, visual recording and transmission, computer access and visual overlay, etc. You also get an idea here of how her tendrils attach to the back of her head, and a better look at one of the pouches, or sleeves, she usually wraps them in, to protect those around her from the electrical shocks and microscopic stingers. Zez, her helmsman and navigator, went from tall, skinny and austere, with a Kid 'N' Play haircut to a softer, more vulnerable nerdy type. The redesign may also be the first appearance of her signature leotard-with-button-on-sleeves-and-leggings outfit, too, I'm not sure. Oh, and the chubby little shar pei/centaur-looking guy is Bitu (nicknamed "Boob", to his annoyance); he's basically the ship's mascot and trouble-maker. The beefy guy in the chainmail and plate armor is from another project.
