A new chapter has been written!

Also, I have published another worldbuilding post about golems and undead, which you can find here.

I was two minutes into a language partner phone session when this post was made. She has you to thank, Domagoj, for witnessing me fangirl the hell out. :D

a question about life force. if i understand correctly, a mage must take the ambient mana from the air store it, limited by he's mana reserve, before he can use it. 1. did the life force is a hidden part of the mana reserve, like a emergency limit to keep the body moving? That would make human magical creatures with a very low need of ambient mana. 2. did the life force actually produce mana as a lower rate, if it is, did all the ambient mana is produce by the dragon bellow?

nobody103

No, mages produce mana on their own. Or rather, their souls do. They can use ambient mana to replenish their mana reserves faster, but not use it directly (unless they want to poison themselves). 1. Life force is the part of a being's mana that is used by the body to keep itself alive and functioning. Humans have little enough of it that they can fuel it with just their souls, no ambient mana necessary. 2. I... don't understand this question.

Thanks for another awesome chapter with much Zorian and Zach banter.

Comment received! I confirm that I am indeed the same person that you exchanged communications with on reddit.

I was dissapointed for most of the chapter, but I KNEW that SOMETHING was going to happen! But that ending! Actually, now that I think of it. All of the interactions of his classmates were pretty refreshing. I hope we get some deeper interactions with some of Zorian's old teachers. I wonder if Alanic and Xvim already know each other prior to the loop. Anyways, I wonder if between Xvim's basic specialization in everything and Alanic's soul magic capabilities, after learning the full story, might have an idea on how to enter the loop, Red Robe style maybe? At the very least they might want to do that thing where they can retain their memories for six loops.

On the topic of the priesthood and holy men- what's their general attitude to the religious situation? What's their view (public or private) on why the gods are gone? What do they feel about the value of prayers? What sort of worship do they encourage? The issue of religion comes up lots in roleplays.

nobody103

The priesthood ultimately admits ignorance of why the gods are 'silent' (most of them deny that they are gone for good; they call it 'Silence of the Gods' when referring to the event) but have three main theories: 1. People were sinful, so the gods grew disgusted with this tainted world. Only by living up to their ideals and being pious men and women can we entice them to talk to us again (and hand out free stuff). 2. The gods were beset by an outside enemy or problem, and had to dedicate their full attention to dealing with this. The emergency is still going on, and they trust their faithful to behave themselves and not set everything on fire in their absence, metaphorically speaking. The priesthood is here to make sure their trust isn't misplaced. 3. The gods have decided we are now mature enough to live our lives without them holding our hands all the time. Them withdrawing their support so suddenly is really just a final step in their creation of us - the ultimate show of trust. The gods are still there, but we need to learn how to talk to them again, this time without them doing all the work... As to the other things... to be honest, I did not put much thought into it. A pretty big hole in my worldbuilding, I know. I've added religion as one of the topics to do a worldbuilding post on.

You are an evil psychopathic, malicious, down-right-no-good human being, for putting a cliffhanger like that at the end of your chapter, and making us wait three weeks for it.

Another question sorry. You said the 'sophisticated flesh golems' require an animation core and that animalistic golems can only be animated by someone who has been under the effects of a shapeshifting potion. It sounds like the flesh golems don't necessarily resemble common animals or humans. If that's the case, how is the animation core created?

nobody103

Sorry for being unclear - flesh golems do resemble humans. It's just that their bodies and internals are very different from those of actual humans, so they simply sticking a soul in it isn't going to work very well.

Nepene

Question, if you don't mind. Hypothetically, if you had a high tier soul mage you really trusted, could you use them to do blood/soul magic on yourself and another with soul sight to grant you soul sight? Not that Zorian would do this probably.
