This is simply a post to keep my patrons informed about what is happening. I don't really have any big news to report. I wanted to add some more worldbuilding articles here, but nothing I wrote so far is worthy of posting yet, I think.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who commented on the four story ideas I posted here a month ago. They were interesting to read, even the negative ones. I still haven't decided which one to write, but I did narrow things down after thinking about it for a month.

First of all, Refuge in Void is out of the running. I definitely won't be picking it. This isn't because I think the story is bad - I like the basic idea and setting - but simply because it would require the most work before I could start writing.

I have also decided I will try writing King of the Junkyard, but as a side story instead of it being the main focus. It will be something to add to whenever I find some time or get sick of the main story temporarily, so updates are probably going to be infrequent/irregular. But it's meant to be episodic, so that shouldn't hurt it too much.

That leaves Infinite Dungeon and Zenith of Sorcery, which are currently vying for the position of the main story I want to focus on. One of these is going to become the main story for me to write. I am currently writing up story plans and intend to try writing some test chapters in the near future. Which one I choose will mostly depend on how that goes.

In short: I will pick either Infinite Dungeon or Zenith of Sorcery as my next story, with King of the Junkyard acting as a side interest either way.

Trying to write two stories at the same time could easily blow up in my face, but eh. I want to try it.

Thank you all for your continued patience and support. I'll try to keep you informed about my progress, and maybe finally finish some worldbuilding articles next time.

Please go with Zenith ^_^

Zenith really seems like it could be awesome, especially with the potential for multiversal conflict. But having a protagonist that has little to no empathy may become a problem. Plus, for me at least, it would be irritating if his rival (that got the university leadership) turned out to be an ass. Most stories would do that just to show that, oh, even though the MC is a douche, his rivals/enemies are bigger arseholes.

Very excited to hear about King of the Junkyard! I think the lighter planning will let you pour a lot of the love that would otherwise go into it into different, maybe more exotic aspects of writing. To paraphrase Nietzsche "that which is light is beautiful, and that which is holy treads on tender feet." To be evil and overwrought though–as I am–I'll also say that from it's summary, my impression of King of the Junkyard is that whereas MoL was very plot/character driven, Junkyard may rely more on tone and ideas. Perhaps that's only natural: in an episodic story, the ideas and characters persist after the plot of the week ends...it forces you to divorce the story from the plot, although no doubt the story can just as easily be wedded to something else (wedded or given a fatal crutch!?). Perhaps then one should be careful in the type of planning one does for a story, lest a bad type of planning defeats the story. Well, that kind of thinking is probably useless. Interested in what you'll come up with for Junkyard, especially considering you mentioned magical girls, androids (the android bit sounded like Alita–nice choice it it is) and cyborgs. Will this be fantasy that substitutes otaku-ish tropes for mythology? Or is Junkyard gonna be something as good as my profile pic (probably not, no offense)? I think you made the right choice with Void, though maybe I just dislike what the isekai market has become. I imagine your choice between Zenith and Dungeon will be informed by what feels better to write in conjunction Junkyard, unless one really excites you and Junkyard becomes subordinate to that (though not necessarily lesser), so to speak. Imagine it'll be symbiotic regardless. Eager to read your writing as always.

I'm most eager for Infinite dungeon. Mother of Learning is such a great example to point at and say "that is progression fantasy." I would love to have another series by you to point at and say "that is LitRPG."

My preference is also for Infinite Dungeon precisely because the genre /is/ so frequently done. But how often is it well done? Just look at all the xianxia-inspired books out there, vs Cradle. There’s a lot of room for a good author to make something well.

As I said again, personally I'm sick of the RPG bullshit, so for me is Zenith, but having a OP character from start is going to be hard to make it engaging.

Thanks for the update. I definitely look forward to King of the Junkyard as a sidestory. As for the mainstory it‘s now between the idea I like the most and the one I like the least, so I‘ll highly anticipate the desicion. Though with how much I enjoyed MoL, there is no way I won‘t give the one I‘m sceptical about at least a try. So I‘m mostly just happy that your new stories draw nearer.

:( King of the Junkyard was my favourite. Refuge in Void's having a doomed world placed it on par with the others in my view, and I wouldn't have minded watching not-Zach's adventures. Question: why would Refuge in Void have required the most work on your part?

Usually I tinker with story ideas for a great deal of time before I start actually writing them, noting down various ideas, recording little story snippets, pondering on the setting's worldbuilding, etc. This makes the development of a definitive story plan relatively easy, since part of the plan consists of just picking from several existing options instead of making up everything from scratch. Well, Refuge in Void is a relatively young story idea, and thus has very little of such things compared to the other three ideas. Thus, developing a story plan for it would have been harder and taken longer. I think.

Mr R

Fair enough. Also, is cannablism the only way to sate the hunger Sparks develop? Commenters beware: these questions reference the spoiler document. 1) Is cannabilism the only way to satiate the spark caused hunger? 2) Are sparks in any way sentient? Do they affect their hosts personality? 3) Can Visions of Paradise be used to revert aging? Can its users make themselves immortal? 4) Has it had any other users besides Jack?

nobody103

1) As far as anyone knows, yes. Though the hunger subsides if one simply suffers through it and waits for the soul to de-stress. 2) A good question! 3) Potentially. 4) A good question!

Mr R

1) More or less what I expected. 3) I'm gussing soul stress probably puts a limit on how often you can revert your age or that of others. It would be curious if Jack could "forget" how things should be. Like amnesia for the soul. 2-4) Do you occasionaly give that reply to plot-irrelevant questions as well as plot relevant ones?

Mr R

Good choice. By the way, do you know of any good dungeon exploration webnovels? I need something to fall back on if you don't write The Infinite Dungeon. Don't worry I'll think it is too weird. I read that Naruto time loop story you enjoyed, and I thought it was decent.

nobody103

Unfortunately, while I like the premise of a dungeon exploration story, most of them veer off into strange and off-putting territory quickly or start as post-apocalyptic (which I dislike). The only thing similar is Chrysalis on Royal Road. I'm not caught up to the latest chapter, but it's decent so far... if you don't mind a protagonist who is a monstrous ant.

Have you considered trying to get a book published?

The cradle series is also one of my favorites it took the parts I found interesting from a xianxia story and left out everything that makes me drop most xianxia story’s after a few chapters. After I found it I tried to look for similar books but I have not been about to find anything that was decent.
