Excellent chapter. Can you elaborate a little on why Zach and Zorian are so wary of the Eldemar central authorities/the royal family? Because it seems to me that, due to their loyalty to the country and Zach's family legacy, the two of them could be considered natural allies to the crown. Heck, Zach seems to be a reasonable marriage prospect for a lesser princess due to his power+Noveda bloodline/connection to the sovereign gate.

Because Eldemar authorities would want control over them and they wouldn't mind playing dirty to get it. They wouldn't see loyalty to the country that you see in them - they would see two powerful rogue agents of uncertain loyalties that have no great forces standing behind them at the moment. As for Zach's legacy, that's all in the past - House Noveda is a gutted shell of its former self at the moment. Its noble status and remnant goodwill would afford them some protection against worst of the abuses, but it doesn't command respect. Both fear and opportunism would make them highly inclined to try and shackle Z&Z with unfavorable contracts, blackmail, threats, assigned minders and similar ploys. The logic would ultimately be that if they didn't do it someone else would have done so. They're actually doing them a favor while since they're so much better behaved than all the other countries and factions and they simply can't take the risk and bla bla bla... Is it possible for Zach and Zorian to have a productive relationship with Eldemar authorities? Yes, but it's hardly guaranteed and the authorities are far more experienced with this sort of things than they are. Which is why the two of them are so wary.

Thanks for the chapter! I'm only contributing a pittance to your patreon but know that I really love your story.

Nice mini-cliff and as always a very enjoyable chapter!

Another question. I remember you mentioning somewhere that you've built other worlds that you want to start writing in after Mother of Learning. Can you at some point elaborate on or explain these worlds, and if you choose not to write a Mother of Learning Sequel, let us get a view into your other worlds and weigh in on what your next story should be? My own request for your next world: the more airships in it the better. You should do a Skies of Arcadia-esque skyworld.

I love worldbuilding, so I tinker with other worlds all the time. Very few of them are designed to have something actually written in them; I just enjoy creating them. I do have plenty of actual story ideas, though. I mostly don't bother you guys with those, since the vast majority of them are half-baked and I tend to abandon the idea after a few months. Every idea is obsessively preserved in some of my work folders, to be dug up when I'm looking for ideas or to be cannibalized into some other, newer idea. When I actually start considering stories to write, there shouldn't be a problem to elaborate on my ideas and see what the audience says about them. I agree with you that airships are awesome, though I currently have neither a setting nor a story idea with that kind of setup. The closest to that is one of the stories which features a lengthy arc about an evacuation of a world through a series of dimensional corridors, which happens via an airship fleet for the protagonist.
