Hello all!

The final map of our Candlekeep Mysteries collection is a bit of a doozy and so I had pivoted towards the end of the month here to what was supposed to have been a location of comparatively more narrow scope, but in classic fashion I became far too invested in and sunk a great number of additional hours in, but behold! Thundertree.

If you're unfamiliar, Thundertree is a location from the Forgotten Realms setting and features prominently in the flagship 5E adventure, Lost Mine of Phandelver. Roughly 4 years ago I'd taken a swing at visualizing the tower at the top of the map you see here (the site of a dragon battle), but at the time had written off the possibility of depicting the surrounding town as "unrealistic". Well, take that pre-covid, 2020 me!

The town of Thundertree has clearly seen better days, but the 55x36 square map previewed above boasts a relatively faithful depiction of how it is described in the text, albeit with the overall level of detail and verisimilitude cranked up a few notches from the non-encounter-scale version available in the official module. I enjoyed working on it a fair bit, am pleased with the results, and hope that you will be too.

What's included in the Download:

  • The 55x36 square map of  the Ruins of Thundertree in high resolution, as previewed above
  • An "Unfurnished" variant where I've removed the rubble, furniture, and general debris from the buildings, leaving all of the overgrowth and a "ruined town" template for you to fill at your leisure
  • Gridded, gridless, and VTT-Compressed options for all of the above

This came at the perfect time, I'm running Lost Mine of Phandelver on roll20 and I found the map in the module fairly lacking and felt the scale was off, this is such an improvement.
