When a certain kind of black woman began getting killed around Atlanta in 1910, it made the news. As bodies piled up, black churches urged City Council and the governor to set a reward. They were supported by prominent white Atlantans, including Asa Candler, the future mayor of Atlanta and the founder of Coca-Cola. But how many victims existed, and how does it foreshadow the treatment of future murder cases involving black women? In this episode of It’s A Mystery, we’ll be discussing The Ripper.
