I’ve always disliked “woke” because it usually means “contrarian.” How and why have "woke" black celebs existed throughout their inception in the 20th century? From sneaky republican greed to white supremacist logic about misogyny to conspiracy theorist thinking, what compels "woke" black celebrities to speak their mind on politics and social issues, even if those aren't their areas of expertise? As the Celebritea series continues to prove, celebrities are more important and influential than ever. How does it impact the black community, especially in a world where misinformation is rampant?
