Patreon what the F@$& (Patreon)

Hey guys just wanted to say I don't know what the hell Patreon are playing at. By now most of you probably realise that Patreon are passing on extra fees that I have been paying on to you guys.  I'm really sorry for this, the creators on this platform ( as far as I know ) haven't been asked about this, and I certainly don't want it. 

If you guys have any thoughts about this please let me know in the comments, I'm planning on writing Patreon a message, letting them know I'm not happy about this and I'm planning on copying and pasting your comments (no names) so they know what you guys think good or bad. 

Thanks for all your support guys and I totally understand if you want to stop supporting me because of this.

I have been wanting to drop Patreon for other reasons related to their policies, but I stayed on for you and one other artist. I am going to drop now. No reflection on you at all. I hope you can sell your models in another venue sometime. -M

How to shot a gift horse in the mouth. Ultimately it will alienate the creators and the patrons. Which will effect their (Patreon) bottom line. My budget is so tight. the extra 50c across ten creators I back will be hard to wear (I am on a disability pension).

I sticking, the only person I support it you anyway. Think this had something to do with the social crusade they went on a while back, booting creators?

while im only backing 4 creators, the sum total is still about 25-ish a month. add the fact because im australian, i have a currency conversion to contend with from the word go, throw in their formula for fees, i believe it was 2.9% + 35 cents or something to that effect, i cant help but feel this is just a huge money grab on their part. id rather just send the creators i back my money directly and give patreon as little as possible if for no other reason is stupidly small amount of notice they have given people and the fact there appears to have been zero consultation with at very least the creators

Yeah you would have thought they would at least run it by creators to give us a chance to voice are opinions. From what I've seen the vast majority of creators aren't happy with the change.

at very least id have thought a heads up to the creators, the people who are gonna wear the immiedate brunt of flack / feedback would have been in order, but apparently that isnt the case in their thought process

Basically I see it as a way they thought they could increase profit on the vast number of $1 to $5 pledges. If you run the numbers based on their removing the 5% surcharge to the creator and adding the $.35 that works out to an increase in their income on all pledges $6 and under while cloaking it in a simplify and get more to the creators mantle.

I am with Ben Schmidt, the work you do is awesome. Why not just use your alternate site and charge what you need?

I've been looking at Patreon alternatives today. There is another site called Makersupport that dose a similar thing or I've been looking into Apps I could add to my site where people could pay a subscription. My main problem with doing it via my site is I would want to have some sort of Patron only area where I could do polls and hear your ideas, get feedback etc from you all.

Yep. It's a dick move by them, but you content creators create best when supported by us & not by wageslaving at a megacorp. So there's not really a better platform, so while I realize I can afford the hike, others can't.

Yeah Duncan - there are 4 of us $10 supporters now - quadrupled in 3 days! An unexpected result? A coincidence? who knows - but hopefully its a trend!
