oh yes!! this movie is such a guilty fav of mine. its so historically inaccurate and villainising, but i love mel gibson, heath ledger and jason isaacs, so i don't care 😆 thank you for reacting! 🤗😁

It won’t surprise you to know that this was written by the writer of Saving Private Ryan. Outside of the over the top villain which historians take the biggest issue with, there was at least enough historical references for it not to be complete fiction. Mel Gibsons character was loosely inspired by the Swamp Fox stories that Walt Disney made a mini series of in the 50s or 60s. In filmmaking this was one of the first attempts of using CGI to enhance practical effects and while it sticks out more to us today it looked good back then.

I love this movie, the musical score, the cinematography, the battle scenes, the characters are all just so good! Mel Gibson is fantastic, along with the rest of the cast. The main bad guy was a little too good in this movie, it took me a long time to watch anything else he was in because all I would think about is this movie and how much I hated him, lol. I used to ball when the youngest finally says Papa and begs him to stay, it is so sad. I use to watch this a lot with my Dad, he is a pretty big war movie buff and we watched all kinds together and this one was definitely the most frequent. But I will say I have only watched it until now I think maybe once since Heath's death. It's just too difficult to watch his death scene, it makes me feel quite uncomfortable and is unsettling, just knowing he's really gone now is just so sad. But it was fun to watch it with you! I hope you get around to watching Last Of The Mohicans, it's my favorite war film and you can't go wrong with Daniel Day Lewis! Gangs Of New York is pretty great too, again another Daniel Day Lewis film that he completely disappears in!
