This is honestly one of my favorite musicals ever. It's a tried and true classic. And the whole "Singin' In The Rain" scene is made all the more amazing when you learn that Gene Kelly was actually sick during it and had a fever of 103 degrees. You'd never know it though, because he was a consummate professional. Here's three more tidbits of trivia about the movie: 1. Apparently, even though Kathy and Don are madly in love and have tons of chemistry in the movie, behind the scenes, Debbie Reynolds and Gene Kelly did NOT get along. Debbie was just starting out in film and dance and she was only nineteen here, and Gene talked down to her constantly and picked on her. He acknowledged it further on down the line and apologized for his behavior. 2. During "Good Morning", the dancing was so intense for Debbie that her feet bled and she almost gave up; Fred Astaire let her watch him choreograph a number for one of his films and he told her something along the lines of "Even I can get it wrong." It helped her keep going. 3. During the "Broadway Night" number, Gene performs with another legendary dancer, Cyd Charisse (the woman in the green dress). During their scene together, if you pay close attention, at one point during a lift there's a sudden jump cut to a different dance move. That's because the move that came after the lift was so steamy and sensual that they cut it out of the movie. For more musical recommendations, I'd go with West Side Story (the one from 1961 and the recent remake from Steven Speilberg), the recent In The Heights movie, Into The Woods (with a stacked cast: Anna Kendrick, Johnny Depp, James Corden, Meryl Streep, Chris Pine and Emily Blunt) and the filmed stage performance of Hamilton on Disney Plus. I'd also recommend The Rocky Horror Picture Show; it's a scream and makes absolutely zero sense, but you'll have a blast, plus it stars Tim Curry, who is always a delight in whatever he's in (you may recall that he plays the hotel concierge in Home Alone: Lost In New York). There's also The Wiz. It was a Broadway smash in the seventies, but as a movie it didn't do well at all. It's a cult classic though, and with powerhouses like Diana Ross, Richard Pryor and the one and only Michael Jackson? You can't go wrong with the musical numbers.

A couple more suggestions: - Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (a supervillain musical) - Pirates of Penzance (a comedy operetta from the Victorian era)
