Great reaction and discussion. You were talking about how the government is acting like a mafia or bully.... that is standard authoritarianism... tyrants always fear those they abuse. President Snow (a huge tyrant) was walking a very fine line in the beginning of the trilogy. Instilling fear but not making people desperate enough to say fuck it and rebel but also not allowing enough hope to cause people to band together in that manner and rebel. Clearly Snow fell off the edge because plutarch was pushing him in that direction. And the only silver lining of living in tyranny is that the tyrant will be overthrown at some point. Sooner rather than later. Love how thoughtful you are about situations and discussing the characters actions with compassion and from all sides. It really makes the reaction much more engrossing.

So many of our generation were basically brought up on these kind of rebellion movies and books; the Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc.. How are boomers surprised that our generation is making moves against the system? We've literally been shown that we have the power to make the world a better place lol

I feel like gale literally cannot say he wouldn’t do the same as Peeta bc he was never in that situation. We can all have ideals about how we HOPE we would react in certain circumstances but I believe that’s all we can say. Absolutes can’t really exist in these types of conditions. There has to be some level of compromise otherwise everyone ends up a hypocrite in some way or another.
