Soooo, as I mentioned in some previous post, I want to replace the default battle BGM since we are currently using the RPGMaker default battle BGM.  I personally like that BGM, but it has the issue that if you come from some other RPGMaker game also using it, you will now have to listen to it again... in a battle heavy game like SKA. :'D

Since the default BGM is quite good, getting something that is at least as good or even better, has been a challenge in the past (I had tried to commission some other composers to work on it but they sadly failed). I believe the one we currently have can get it done, though.

Which brings me to the piece attached to this post. When I commissioned it, the details I gave our composer was something like the battle theme in Sengoku Rance, having a bit of "two alternating segments" one more positive/overcoming adversity for the player, and a more dangerous one for the enemy (to kind of fit the turn based nature). Aaand this is the result. I think it's a good first iteration, although I feel like the "positive" segment misses the mood. It feels a bit cheery/happy to me, as opposed to adventurus/overcoming adversity that the default BGM had.

You're spot-on in saying the darker side really captures the mood. The lighter side... there's that feeling of adventure to it later, but the early runs... what I'm hearing is when it runs into the lower notes it's like it falls behind a little and kinda splats, like a singer aiming too ambitiously for a high note and going flat instead. (Totally "not" something I'm familiar with, stupid air control drills lol) Just my two cents. And for the record, the fact that you are so devoted to this project that you're commissioning bgm for it... dude, take my money XD ❤️

I like the beginning of it, I think it conveys that sense of adventure and "we're battling for our friends let's do this!!" kinda vibe but at second :25 when it changes it feels kinda harsh and doesn't flow from that feeling into the otherside of the enemy's. I feel like it should be a higher tempo and convey a sense of danger like "Oh this is dangerous we might lose" kinda feeling. I'll just throw out that I love this piece from Dead Aegis that conveys a sense of fear but also mixes in alot hope in the piece as a guide too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJLKh9H94qg
