It's entirely possible that this was all a ploy from the 'beginning' (depending on how far back you go). He's going to spin a yarn about some terrible accident that has befallen the lady of the vale, then when pressed in-private he'll spin another yarn about how the lady has been 'unwell'... and in a fit of unreasoned jealousy she assaulted Sansa completely unprovoked. And everyone will smile and nod and accept him as Regent of The Vale.

Sansa is 16 at this point in the show. She is only 14 in the books though. Peter is about 30. That story Oberyn tells gets me every time. Like dam Tyrion literally been going through this since he was born. The Nights Watch should absolutely be listening to Jon but Allister is just mad that he made is back and didn't die at Krasters.
