Development has stalled this past month or two, largely as a result of my massive reoccurring burnout.  There's a patch 90% completed, and getting ready to release, which has the last major feature for Towergirls- the policy events.  Similar to Divinity: Dragon Commander, every so often the player (if they have at least one territory) will be given some event with several choices on how to resolve an issue.  Princesses chime in and can lend advice on what to pick, and then a few turns down the line after that, the effect of your choice comes into play- good or bad.  Rescued princesses might also get upset or happy based on what you choose.  Fun.  It's also farther along than what this old screenshot might suggest.  Policy events are currently functional in-game- we just need a few more of them, and the skip-to-next-policy-event button working.

(Work in progress)

We also have some new developments for the art side of the game.  Hetros has been working on a small side project for Towergirls, to make money and/or get more publicity, and some of those efforts are splashing back over onto the main game.  It's been decided that we're going to create new emotes / VN artwork for ALL of the princesses, this time with a consistent art style, multiple expressions per pose, and a style closer to that of Gats.  This means we have a huge number of partially completed princess artwork that will be coming to Towergirls: the Game in the future.  This might mean we lean more on the kingdom stuff in the future, to get all the princesses added and appearing ingame, and put the questing stuff on the back-burner for a little while.  Either way, look at this good stuff by Elora and Poka.

On a wholly different note- close to a year back we determined that getting the game published was going to be our top priority.  I've been dealing with burnout off and on, there's no one else working on the game, and we need more income and new blood to make any meaningful progress.  Before we could publish we need(ed) to form a Limited Liability Corporation, as that would be a prerequisite to listing our game on Steam and following through on a publisher offer we were given in the past.  All the paperwork for this is done and over with, but we still haven't quite gotten the LLC formed, and that means we still aren't published.

Just recently I moved back from Florida to the west coast, and my cost of living has increased greatly as a result.  80% of the Patreon funds isn't quite working out as well as it had in the past, especially given that we had more patronage in the past as well.  I don't blame anyone but us for this- development has been going very slowly, if at all, and the game isn't super stable at this moment.  There's a certain point where I can't justify essentially solo'ing the production of Towergirls: the Game.

A few months back I decided that if we weren't published by Halloween that I'd be stepping down as project lead for Towergirls.  Well, it's Halloween, and we're definitely not published.  The plan is for me to stay onboard as a programming consultant and on the eventual board of directors, but I'm not going to be spearheading the project any longer.  I've found pretty decent full-time work, and while it is wageslaving, I'm making a hell of a lot more money than before.  As an unfortunate side effect I have considerably less free time.  On the bright side, all the Patreon funds will now be prioritized to paying for art and hired help.

I'm still going to release the very delayed patch with policy events in the very near future, but after that, will mostly just be fixing the occasional bug and helping Hetros find a new programmer.  In all honesty this might make for a big delay in the project, or cessation altogether, but there's a point where I need to earn an actual living and pursue my own original ideas.

If all goes well the project will get some wind under its sails again in not too long.  While I won't be spearheading the entire production on my own any longer, I will do what is within my power to make sure the game still moves along and has a future.  Unyin, FelineKnave, and all the others have done very good work on the art and writing departments, and I'd really prefer none of our efforts be wasted.

For now, thank you for your support all of this time, and have a great Halloween.

-Duke
