Video
Generally spectacular and rich film-based video - finished at full 4K - Nope shows exceptional fidelity. Texture fills the frame, whether it's in close or wide shots of the landscapes. Sharpness sustains a high level, consistently impressive. The disc keeps a switching aspect ratio, ranging from 2.35:1 to full IMAX 1.85:1.
Hearty contrast and dense black levels keep Nope visually dimensional. HDR brings the spark to lights against the nighttime sky, and Nope isn't afraid to play in darkness. True black isn't always the goal, yet little is lost. Clarity helps too, but this is limited in places by small rounds of noise. It's generally harmless, but does intrude on otherwise crystalline imagery and the slight, almost imperceptible grain.
Satisfying color saturation gives the environments generous earth tones, the rich greenery and dried browns creating a brilliant, natural palette. Wiggly flailing arm men sport awesome neons. Daytime skylines drape the scenes in vivid blues, and night skies do the same, albeit darker, obviously.
Audio
Eclectic sound design lets effects wander around the stage. Unearthly screeches and howls find homes in the rears and overhead, the placement eerie. This Atmos mix follows voices too, moving characters through the stereos, surrounds, and heights in various places where appropriate.
LFE packs a hearty punch, but lacks those deepest tones from better mixes. Alien ships and horse hooves generate suitable thrust in the subwoofer, but there's potential range left unused.
