From Chris: "Gothic" haunted mansion series set in 1980s England, which  first aired on Netflix. Glacial pacing and incredibly timid PG horror  made for female audiences more focused on drama.

Various  romantic entanglements drive an emotionally charged but melodramatic  narrative. A young American governess takes care of two orphaned,  troubled British children at an isolated manor. The two child actors,  particularly the young girl, are highly annoying. Unfortunately, they  get a lot of screen time.

This  is from the same creator behind last year's The Haunting of Hill House,  which I reviewed and was a better done limited series. Some of the  strangest photography choices I've seen for horror - the entire series  has an odd, diffuse backlighting which most directors only use for  scenes occurring in dream sequences or Heaven. Leading to minimal  atmosphere for a supposedly dark ghost story.
