Lad resisted as Yeong pulled him up the stairs. He knew what was going to happen. One more painful video. One more promise that it is just one more. One more terrible session of lovemaking, where her eyes rest longingly on the screen. Yeong had come to escape into the world of that new team. She leaned in predictably pleading in a whisper. “It's just one last time.”

“Okay...” Lad gave in and allowed himself to be pulled up. He was weak to those promises.

“Hey.” Drianna uttered, clutching Lad's other hand from the bottom step.
“He doesn't wanna go up.”

“That's up to him!” Yeong shouted.

Dri gritted her teeth and let go as Lad smiled weakly. “Just one more, right?”

“Y-yeah.” Yeong nodded, pulling him away. The door shut and they were once again in a dark room lit only by the screen

“You know this is killing me, right?” Lad finally asked. Yeong faltered and as the screen turned on, showing images from a throne room that looked familiar, Yeong pushed a mask into Lad's hands.

“I know but... We could return. I miss everyone so much. I miss Kai. YOU miss Kai and your sister. Plus, the Hero's world isn't so bad, right?”

Lad stared at the screen blankly, closing his fingers around the mask in his hand. He could see the Hero sitting smugly on his throne surrounded by all their former friends and allies.
“Hello Lad. Contrary to what you believed I never wanted to see you fall into despair like this. It is simply a result of your resistance to the common flow of things... I am going to become the Hero and you all will become side characters in the end.  Was I speaking in vain when I told you what I wanted to do? Look around. Is the world a nicer place?” He sighed.
“I know it hurts to lose, but the loss is your decision. You could be here with us as soon as today. Those masks contain the programming that you so foolishly shook off, leading to all of this. If you had not fought there would be no pain. In fact... You would be by my side right now. You said something funny before. Fake love and affection is what I surround myself with? Is that better and worse than what you have right now?”

Lad stared down at the mask. He looked back at Yeong. She said. “I-I'm thinking about doing it... Does it hurt?”

The Hero smiled. “It doesn't hurt. It feels good.”

Lad looked to Yeong as she asked. “Can we both do it at the same time? I don't want to do it alone.” He nodded reluctantly.
“Great.” The two held the masks at the same time as Yeong counted.
“One...”
“Two...”
“Three.” As she said three Lad made a motion of putting it on while reaching to turn the screen off. Lad looked over and watched Yeong's body convulsing as she placed the mask over her eyes. Her legs spread apart. True to the Hero's words she was feeling pleasure and it was intense.
“Uuuuh....” She groaned. The mask dropped of of her face. Lad could only assume she had been reprogrammed as he had been. She turned to Lad with a false smile, or maybe it was real. He could barely tell.
“Lad, isn't it wonderful?”

Lad swallowed all of his bad feelings and smiled widely. “You're right! This is fantastic.” He was faking. He had one last idea.

“We have to get the others as well...” Yeong trailed off, seeming out of it.
“Right?”

Lad nodded. “No, you're right. It's for the Hero, right?”Yeong beamed as he said that.

“Yes. We need to handle Kara.”

“Can you do that?” Lad asked.

“With help. Should we call then?”

Lad smiled weakly. “We should.” He turned and looked to the door.

“Lad?”

“Yes, Yeong?”

“It's not nice to lie.”

He looked back and saw her leaning over his lap, lifting the mask to his face. “No!” He shouted before everything seemed to stop. His body convulsed in sharp spasms as he orgasmed much like a woman for the first time with the feelings rolling over his body like a wave, rather than centering on his member. You smiled and hugged him tightly before turning the screen back on. Lad's mind felt like it was buzzing, then as the screen came back on he heard a familiar voice that carried none of the negative feelings he had come to associate with it.

“What happened?” The Hero asked.
“You were planning something.”

Yeong shook her head as the mask fell off of Lad's face. “He wasn't able to get it on, so I helped.”

“Good girl. You made the right choice. Now that this is done we can slowly begin healing. Right Lad?” The Hero smirked.
“This is far stronger than the original programming, by the way.”

“Ah! I'm glad.” Lad smiled.
“I didn't like all those nasty thoughts that I was allowed to have before.”

The Hero sighed. “Come now. I think it's time for me to meet Kara.”

-

Lad and Yeong stood on either side of Kara, who was in bonds. The two had been dressed in cute maid costumes and as Kara was brought before the Hero the two fallen Heroes walked to the side of Fin and leaned in to plant a kiss on his cheek. Lad then knelt, as did Yeong. The two stared up reverently at him as he extended his hands and patted them on the heads. Yeong and Lad smiled proudly.
“So... The former mentor.”

“The failed version.” Kara retorted.

“Are you a Hero? All I see is a boy playing with dolls.”

“Ha ha ha.” He laughed sarcastically.

“I had thought that you were the thing tying him to this world, but I can see how that wouldn't be the case. He completely forgot about you. There was no longing. No regrets.”

“That makes two of us.” Kara shrugged.
“Do what you're gonna do.”

“Oh fine... It's no fun when you're being this stoic.”

A feminine robotic body with tall fox ears was brought in beside her. “H-hey...”

“What?” He smirked.

“Y-you're not gonna-”

“Place your consciousness inside that useless body?” He asked innocently.

Kara began to sweat. “I- I can be good.”

“Come to think of it... You aren't that different from him.” She choked out.

“How amusing! But... I'm afraid your abilities are putting me in a tough spot. You are simply too dangerous and really...” He smirked.
“There's no reason not to do this to you.”

Kara was placed in front of the machine and made to stare into it's ridiculous heart-shaped eyes. “No no...” Kara groaned. As she complained her perspective shifted from her mind being sucked into the machine body. She lifted her useless synthetic arms and looked down at them, then looked up at her former, drooling body as it was discarded so callously.

“Come come.” Kara had no choice but to approach. She climbed up and cuddled into the Hero's lap. The two servant's were smiling on either side.

“Y-you'll pay.” She uttered.

“See... This is far more enjoyable and safe than you submitting to me as you were. Now you can curse at me all you want." He teased, massaging her synthetic breasts lovingly.
"This body... Something about it with you inside... It just makes me so..." He sighed.

“You're horrible...” She pouted.

“Oh, I know. But-”

She sighed. “Too bad this is just a branch.”

“W-what did you just say?”

Kara smiled impishly at him. “You're doomed to only succeed in branches. The end will have you lose. These two will not fall and you will fail.” Kara wrapped her arms around the Hero lovingly as he struggled to get up.

“No... No! You liar!” He screamed, pushing her off.
“Coronia?”

The Angel was silent. Kara laughed. “Enjoy it, Hero! Another fake world all to yourself!”

I know this is a rather abridged version of what happens in this timeline. We skimmed over literal months of content to focus on what is bringing this event chain to a dead end. Nonetheless, another prime example that Kara is God awful at taking care of those she cares about. I think seeing her reaction when she realize Yeong willfully submitted herself to the DH, literally bringing any hope left down with her, would have been a treat. Plus her cracking when she realize what is to be her fate at the end does humanize her, prove that the armor can crack under stress. But the defiance is back in full force before long. I think the "transfer" could have been more extreme, would have scratched some peculiar itches. I do believe that learning about her "love" she found after parting with the Hero, along with some recognition of her past and present mistakes would finish to clear the air and make her character great again ;-)

I may go back and try to do more with it at some point... my brain was in a bit of a fog when I wrote this chapter.

Gotta love how even in the bad ending, Kara manages to cuck the Dark Hero. XD "Oh you think you've won? Turns out even this was fleeting :P" XD I have mixed feelings on Kara (I think she's well written, but I wouldn't say I like her personally because of her flaws and screw ups.), but I can't help but be charmed by someone whose response to losing this hard is flicking the bad guy's nose and pointing out how futile their actions are. Really came a long way from how overconfident she was in Quest. I'm also definitely not salty that Finn got with Jeanne instead of her at the end of OG quest. XD

I think that nonchalant defiance is very in-line with what we've seen of Kara across the stories. What is leaving me a strange taste here is the slight crack she shows, and once her fate is sealed and destroyed, grow a spine again. While falling to fear suddenly is very plausible, showing defiance afterwards is... strange, even if the words are needed to wrap up the dead end. If we stay in the theme, maybe have her spit those words in a manic tone rather than the stonecold one she usually has ? I do think that for her character to regain the importance she had, she need to open up to Lad (and maybe others) and be less "monolithic". She already showed some subtle interest, so I'm very hopeful, and I just voice my concerns to be sure it isn't forgotten ;-)
