From the ridge overlooking the town you could see that it looked strikingly different from a human settlement. For one, it had had to be pointed out to you. The town seemed primitive from above as all you could make out was a high tree canopy and the occasional cloth banner or flag poking through the leaves to show any sign of civilization. Kara promised you that it would look much different from the ground.

“I'm sorry.” You heard the small feminine voice behind you and turned to see Heilan approaching with her head lowered. Her tail was practically between her legs as she got closer and stopped, leaving a few feet of room.

“What?”

“You left me in a bit of a state after our last encounter so I didn't get a chance to say it. Sorry for losing my head a bit for the past weeks. I just couldn't help myself. But yesterday you gave me the same feeling that Djir did. At that time I felt like I could think only of you. Even if it was just for a moment.” She shrugged lightly.
“I dunno if I can promise anything, but I'm going to at least try, because I'm able to now.”

Your jaw dropped. Kara definitely did something while she was in your body. You knew for a fact that in terms of dominant beastfolk, she was incredibly domineering when she wanted to be. You guessed that a lot of that was leveled against Heilan. You liked to think that she did it intentionally to do you a favor, but there was also just a chance that Kara found it fun the same way you found your prank to be fun.
“Just... Remember that feeling.” You offer, trying to retain the dominant air. Heilan tilts her head quizzically at you before nodding and returning to the group. As you watched, you saw Kara standing on her own. The old man casually walked up to her and dug his old hand into her soft rear. She jumped and turned to look at him angrily. He seemed a bit surprised by her expression but then, probably remembering what you said, doubled down and forced a kiss along with an aggressive grope of her breast. She was hesitant, then wrapped her arms around him and 'gave in' to the advances. The man was very satisfied, then grew more and more tired as he worked to 'dominate' her until he finally slumped down. Kara shot you a look, to which you responded with a wink. She rolled her eyes at you and left the old man slumped over as though he was a walking corpse.

Kara moved to stand at the head of the group and motioned everyone in. “Alright. Listen up. This is a Demonkine village. They're actually pretty nice.” She stared pointedly at the humans in the group that were shooting doubting glances at each other.
“Only thing is, Humans are not commonly seen except as slaves. The bright side is, what we call a slave is more just what you'd call a servant. So you don't gotta be in chains and we don't gotta whip you, unless you're into that.” She scanned the crowd for takers. When no one volunteered she continued.
“The ones that'll easily pass here are..” She began pointing at individuals.
“Elf, Shell, Me, Dog and...” She pointed, surprisingly, at you.
“Hero.”

You approached her. “Me?”

“The problem is mostly what people look like on the inside. You are like me, and like the shell over there.” She pointed to Raithe.
“So, if you just hide your ears nobody will know. Everyone else could've done the same but the problem was, if someone who could sense magic looked at the group we'd be caught.”

“Okay.” You nodded.
“Makes sense.”

Kara shouted past you. “We have two carts so we can easily pass as traders. That's the story, if anyone asks.” She waited for everyone to acknowledge what she said before breaking up the group into their carts.

You pulled a cloak with a  hood so that you could hang it over your head to hide the fact that you don't have ears. Kara approached you specifically and stuff two rolls of cloth on either side and fastened them.
“That's gonna look a bit more natural.” She paused, then smiled at you affectionately.
“Nice prank, by the way.” The woman stuck her tongue out at you, as if to say that it did not work. At least, not initially.

You blushed. “Thanks? I guessed you could take him on pretty easily.”

“He's weak, cocky and full of Mana. A total 'cow.'” She mocked, tossing a glance back at the old man who was still shuffling about like a zombie.
“What'd you tell him?” She asked curiously.

“I'm sure he'll keep trying, so you'll see.” You teased.

Kara laughed heartily. For the first time since before Chesharidge it felt like you were both connecting. “Okay. Hey...” She stared at you, trailing off of what she said.

“What?”

“Just a warning... Anyone that can see Mana is gonna assume you're like me, or Shell.” She commented.

You interjected. “Can you stop calling her that?” You relented and added in reference to her main statement.
“I know. I remember what happened with my core.”

“No. I'll call her what she is.” You bristled a bit at that but decided to let it go.
“Also, I meant... They're gonna think you're a girl.” You lifted a brow as she said that.

“Because that's what your core shows. We're all female, my kind.” Kara adjusted your hood a bit so that it would look more natural, then added delicately.
“We could... Work on making this look much more natural.”

“You know, if your goal from the start was to turn me into a fox girl then it sounds less and less like you wanted me to be a hero for everyone.”

Kara blushed. “It's just a thought.” You rarely saw her be bashful, and this was one of those moments.

“Are there really no fox men?”

Her eyes widened at the question. She looked up as though thinking about it for the first time. “Not yet, no.”

With Jeane at the head of one Cart with Raithe and you and Kara at the head of another you approach the town from the  ground. It is not walled, but the pathway is guarded by two gnolls that just nod you through.
“That was really easy.” You whispered.

“Trade is actually pretty common. Traders come south all the time to and from Demonkine, and you all would never notice where they're from if you tried.” She boasted. You guessed that was accurate. If the Kingdom assumed any random caravan of beastfolk was full of Demons then it would hinder business significantly.

The town from the ground looked completely different from up above. The canopy created what looked like a hollow dome. Between ancient trees hung strings of lights and lanterns of many different colors that lit the interior of the dome up like your town on one of it's festival days. Only, presumably it was like this all year around. The buildings were not of solid construction. They were cloth and hide, but it was not a camp. The tents were done up with decorations and seemed like permanent fixtures.
“You need special permission to til the soil or alter the landscape so people live in these structures. They're actual buildings, just built lighter. There's no wind in here so they can't blow away or anything.” Kara explained. Some of the tents were two or three stories, and as wide as some of the larger buildings you had back home. There were a few structures that were nestled within trees or that had a facade which obviously led underground. Some of the tent-like structures flowed up the sides of trees and expanded above like hives. Those were the most impressive.
“Some of the tree homes were grown over several years. It's done by placing a frame within a sapling and letting it grow around it.” You were impressed by everything you saw, in general.

You were additionally impressed by how lively everything was. There was commerce, there was business. You could see that people were walking with purpose as though they were living lives that were quite full. Though, you were not sure why you thought it would be different. The types of people you saw were mostly beastfolk with a few gray elves. Very surprisingly were the number of humans you saw walking about freely. Kara was not wrong when she simply described them as servants. They did not look fearful or oppressed any more than the lower class citizens that worked the cities back home. You understood right away why this plan would work.

As you parked you stepped off the wagon and stood uncomfortably between Jean and Kara. Even though you were promised that you did not stand out, you still felt self-conscious as a human pretending to appear as a beastfolk. Jean was about as uncomfortable as you, even though she looked the part.
“What's wrong?” You asked. Kara stepped away to talk to a man about accommodation as soon as you started speaking.

Jean shrugged. “I look the part, yes.” She gulped then leaned closer to whisper.
“But these are not my people. I have not lived here. What do I say if someone approaches me? I am on edge, to say the least.”

“Tell me about it.” You chuckle. What she said described everything you were feeling to some extent.

She continued in a whisper. “My superior has not harassed me in a little while. Did you do something?”

“You could say that. I can't say he wont be a problem, but he shouldn't be as much of a problem.”

Jean relaxed noticeably. “Thank you.” Her gray cheeks reddened a little, then when no one was looking she turned to you and pecked you on the lips. You were shocked, for sure. It was unprompted. It was forward. It was unlike her. She stared at you affectionately and spoke.
“I said I could not be your teacher any longer. That does open up other... Options.” Your heart beat a bit faster as she said that. You could not speak, but you did nod slowly in response. It was not total agreement, but you were not opposed. Before you could truly respond your attention was drawn to Kara returning with a large beastfolk male.

“Alright everyone, I've sorted something out.” Kara explained. As she said that though, you could not help but observe the man's large paw kneading into Kara's ass without resistance.
“This is a friend of mine. Cerius”

The man in question was a large Beastfolk. The type he seemed to be was hard to say, but after giving it some thought you decided that 'Racoon' was probably the best possible guess you could give. He had a large bushy tail that waved back and forth and around his eyes there was some definite shading. He was the type of Beastfolk that was very animal-like, similar to Djir. He had vaguely animal features but very unlike Djir or the gnolls, he was as short as a human and fatter than the prince. The man was grinning widely and gave off the impression of someone that was very pleased with the arrangements he made. As you stared at Kara quizzically she added.
“He is an old, trusted friend.” It was said to the group but you knew it was in response to your skepticism specifically.

You approached to introduce yourself. He extended a paw quite readily, eyeing you hungrily. “An honor.” He said in a breathy tone. The man sounded out of breath. You did not think it was from exertion but instead just from 'being.' He wore loose robe-like clothing that was open at the chest and did not have jewelry in the traditional sense, but did have colorful, thick beads adorning his neck and wrists.

“The honor's mine, I guess.” You utter uncertainly.

The man giggled. “I like him.” He commented to Kara.

Kara sighed. “Don't worry, it's fine if he knows. Cerius runs something like what Galia had, but more.”

“I see. I'm assuming the 'but more' is...” You trailed off as Kara avoided your gaze very noticeably.

The building was much like the other structures in the town, only it was quite large. It was a combination of all the different types you saw. Buildings built into trees, buildings leading underground and of course the large, decorated tents. The interior of the tent that Cerius owned was large and looked like a town within a town, because inside there were separate structures and sections. Within were many patrons enjoying food and drink. On various stages and at various locations there were women in scant clothing dancing or serving patrons.
“So we are here for-” As you tried to speak to Kara while she lead you and your group through the maze of tables and trees and sections, Cerius stepped between you both and draped an arm over your shoulder and Kara's. He felt sweaty just to be around. As he was near you the air became noticeably more humid.

“Supplies! Kara offered her services for a full restock, as well as some useful information and other equipment that should prove essential for your mission.” He leaned down, placing his face close to yours. You leaned away.

“But... It is going to take some time to gather it all. Perhaps a week?” He feigned deep thought. You knew he was feigning because his intentions were obvious to you. He wanted something.
“This is a place for experimentation... Would you like to try working here as well? It is fun, you can make some money and the offer is open to all of you beautiful people.”

You narrow your eyes at him. “If we don't?”

“Oh, it fine. You don't lose, only gain.” He promised. You could tell that he was telling you the truth.
“You are all free to stay and explore. Within these walls, this 'carnival' of mine, none will harass you. I am an important fixture of Demonkine!”You offered Kara a look of skepticism. She looked back at you and seemed ashamed to have to agree with the man's assessment.

“He does have locations all over the territory.” She stated.

“Speaking of! There's someone at my eastern branch asking for the Manager.” He burst into smoke. You stepped back and coughed, fanning the smoke away. When it cleared there was a very crude statue of what you assessed to be a raccoon with very large balls. You look at it, then offer Kara a confused look.

“Is he-”

She nods. “If we leave the statue quickly we can be gone before he gets back. Not that he'll have trouble finding us in here.”

“Is someone talking about me!?” He shouted playfully behind Kara. She screamed in fear, her fur standing on end as two large paws appears on her shoulders in a motion that you could tell was specifically crafted to startle her. The man was standing behind her and the statue was gone before you could even blink.

Weapon

Really cool world building with the look into how the city functions and how it's grown. I really like stuff like that. Good progress with Heil and Kara but we shouldn't rely on Kara forever, at some point we need to learn her Dommy ways lol. Hopefully in the time that Kara is doing her prostitution (and hopefully not bad ending herself as she tends to do) we can figure out Cerius' other motives and other things.

I like the chapter. The description is very good. I do hope they can work and get a few extra items that might be useful in the wilderness.
