Man after choosing this on so many polls I'm so glad you're reacting to this show finally

Joshua Fondren

Oh yea you’re gonna like this and like you pointed out, the animation matches the audio, great choice.

Katakuriko

Man, this show makes me feel some way. Hope you enjoy it Tony!

Yessss I renewed my sub at the absolute perfect time!

Amazing reaction! The director is Shin'ichirō Watanabe, you will know him for another super classic anime you will probably review soon: "Cowboy Bebop". He's a huge music fan, and he named episodes for that anime following rock songs like "Toys in the Atic". OST is also top noch quality with the veteran Yoko Kanno. I'll be following this show with you! Rock on brother.

This show has been on my "To watch" list for a while. In part because of the show Director. Glad to be enjoying it alongside the patreon members.

The short version of the name thing in Japan: - You use last names by default with everyone. You always use them with strangers, acquaintances, and people older than you. - Using a first name is very casual and typically means it's someone you're close to. There is more nuance including usage of various honorifics and other language specific details, but that's the main thing in the scene you asked about.

Ryo

Regarding names, it's most common to call each other by their last name, especially if acquaintances, adding -san at the end to signify formality and respect. Regarding friends in the same social tier (students of the same year), they'll sometimes call each other by their first name, though some still prefer to continue with the last name. Either way you would add -kun for boys and -chan for girls to signify the "more than just acquaintances" relationship. Within the closest friend groups, many people drop the honorifics altogether and call each other by their first names. Very close friends like this are comfortable enough to be super crass to each other and all is well.

Lixien

Usually people that are not close don't call themselves by their first names. Specially not people of the opposite gender. And even if thet get close they will add -san at the end. If a girl calls a boy by only by their first name is usually because they're childhood friends/really close friends, they're dating or they just don't care about social norms lol. Btw, I'm pretty sure they're using ''rotoscoping'' to animate the instrument playing. Basically, they get footage of someone playing then they trace over it. So yeah, this anime is going to look legit. Sometimes when they use this technique it can look a bit wonky,. but they did a pretty good job here.

Oh man I completely forgot about this anime, I was listening to Moaning for months after this but never ended up finishing the actual anime lol, excited to make up for that with these reactions!

Lulu

I heard back when I watched this 10+ years ago that the fluidity of everything was on point and it's the first thing you mention too xD
