A little explanation if you didn’t catch it, Lelouch said the word “Orange” (which doesn’t mean anything) and ordered Jeremiah to let them go with all his power to make it look to the others that “Zero” has an information that could put Jeremiah in a scandal (also to make their escape more plausible and not give out that he has strange powers). A brilliant move from Lelouch.

I don't know if it was intentional but to me Zero's design very much looks like a chess piece which is fitting for the character.
